Re: October 28-30 Predictions
I wonder if Smile might be The #1 Horror Movie of the Weekend. That would be embarrassing for Ends - it's fucking named after the holiday!

Re: October 28-30 Predictions
Prey For The Devil trailered always played well when I saw it. People love these generic religious horror movies. It's why The Nun has the highest opening in The Conjuring franchise.
That being said, obviously Smile is the only horror pic that most people care about right now. Could it see a small increase over the weekend?
Black Adam will drop just above 50%. Very respectable.

Well, and I feel like Doctor Strange here saying there's a 1-in-14-million chance ... but the fact it's called Halloween Ends might-might-might just help it over a holiday called Halloween. I'm not going all-in on that happening, nor even expecting it to, but if on 31st October the estimates came out and Halloween Ends was #3 and Smile was #4, I wouldn't be totally shocked.

Re: October 28-30 Predictions
With bad word of mouth though people would be more likely to just watch it at home and go see the horror movie that's actually supposed to be good. The holiday will help but not THAT much.

Re: October 28-30 Predictions
Am I reading this right? Is The Bad Guys back in 1,478 cinemas this weekend?
I wonder why. Possibly counter-programming for adults or an option for parents while they watch serial killers or a last gasp attempt at $100m? Interesting anyway. I hope it does well.

The Numbers only has an estimate. 1,500+ is from a booker with Cinedigm/Iconic Events and has also been shared by the producers/director. I'm going to bet something around this is more accurate. Though technically 1,000+ is still correct .

Re: October 28-30 Predictions
I'm sure the studio is having a bit of fun with the 660k number, but its not very good either way. Pretty sad that a horror opening on the weekend before Halloween won't even hit double digits.

Prey for the Devil has 18 reviews and nearly as many percentage points (17%). Ouch. #NotObsessedWithRottenTomatoes

Re: October 28-30 Predictions
Looking at the Friday estimates so far, Halloween weekend has really let me down. No small drops for horror movies. If anything, they feel heavier than normal.

Re: October 28-30 Predictions
Walking around yesterday saw people in Halloween costumes everywhere. Friday night and Sat night are probably going to be dented from busy Halloween activities. Could see Sunday be better than usual.

Re: October 28-30 Predictions
I guess having four horror movies was too much for the market after all. Smile will cross $100M, but probably won't get to $110M. Still an amazing run for it.
Even Black Adam and Ticket to Paradise dropped harder than expected.

Everyone is busy with Halloween parties. But hopefully at some point this weekend they'll check out a movie.

Just don't do what Seoul residents did yesterday for Halloween...

Corpse wrote: Just don't do what Seoul residents did yesterday for Halloween... Geez, yeah. Awful incident. It feels like the type of event that will instigate a cancellation of Halloween in future years. I'm not sure of South Korea's culture for banning, but in China it would - actually, Halloween (and all western festivals) are already banned in public institutions and highly discouraged elsewhere.

Even Black Adam and Ticket to Paradise dropped harder than expected. But, oddly, Lyle had a decent drop. The best of all reported movies that didn't have large expansions. Maybe this weekend it will finally start to have decent holds. And I kind of felt Ticket to Paradise's Friday number was larger than I expected. I had it doing $7.2m for the weekend.
