Thor: Love and Thunder predictions
November 5, 2021.
Natalie Portman is returning.
Will probably be bigger than Ragnarok.

Re: Thor: Love and Thunder predictions
I take it this will include Jane as Thor in some capacity. I wonder how they'll link or explain iThor's GoTG connection since this is coming before GOTG3.

Re: Thor: Love and Thunder predictions
What a twist. Natalie Portman returning to become the female Thor. Angelina Jolie walking on stage for The Eternals was surprising, but I think she was rumored(?) to be in that. I didn't see any rumors about Portman returning.

Re: Thor: Love and Thunder predictions
Pretty crazy that it's Thor that is probably getting several solo films after a trilogy and Iron Man and Cap are "done"."

Thor didn't. Also, Hemsworth is a much younger actor and his character is the one that works better in funny MCU stuff (see Ragnarock, GotG team...). So it's kind of necessary.

Yeah I have no clue how they're even doing this before Guardians 3.

Re: Thor: Love and Thunder predictions
I’d guess the Guardians will be in the first third, but go away once the main plotline with Jane as female Thor begins?

Re: Thor: Love and Thunder predictions
Possibly yes.
I feel that the only reason we are getting Thor first is because of the whole Gunn issues which have now pushed back GOTG3. Would have loved to see Thor supporting the Guardians against Adam Warlock. Seems like a long way off now.
Hopefully Thor 4 will be less comedic than the last one.

About a $1,000,000,000,000 dollars, a new bar only to be surpassed by a female rendition of the Hulk played by Millie Bobby Brown.

Re: Thor: Love and Thunder predictions
I still don't know how I quite feel about Portman being a new female version of Thor, but she's a talented enough actress to pull it off. With the goodwill of Ragnarok, IW and EG I don't see how this doesn't cross $1B WW. Obviously, this will have a lot to do with how much Hemsworth is actually in it, but as of right now this movie has everything going for it. I wouldn't be surprised if followed FFH success and had a more substantial increase OS than domestic.

Re: Thor: Love and Thunder predictions
So Thor could potentially have each film gross 100s, 200s, 300s and 400s

Re: Thor: Love and Thunder predictions
It’ll be with DR. Strange and premiere of ObiWan. It’s probably the easiest sell of a film to overperform since No Way Home

The second audiences have footage and a date they will be there, even if it was a week before opening.

By that logic we'd never get Marvel trailers until this late.

Re: Thor: Love and Thunder predictions
New world. Do you really need marketing that far out anymore? Push it that month that’s really all you need now!
I think the cinema world realizes you don’t need a year out trailer anymore. Our already small world is collapsing. It’s all GA now

Re: Thor: Love and Thunder predictions
Batman v Superman proved what can happen with a year+ of trailers/clips.
Could end up in disaster. (Yes, it still opened well, but my god...)

Re: Thor: Love and Thunder predictions
BVS was pre pandemic. What else you got? Pre movie promotion has switched online. Comic Con is down almost 80%. The only people they are catering to at this point is us. Expect more like Kneobi in the future.
If anything BVS marketing campaign hurt it. There’s really no reason to start promoting a film until 1-2 months out.

Re: Thor: Love and Thunder predictions
Thegun is correct. Any major marvel film needs virtually no marketing until the final 6-8 weeks.

Re: Thor: Love and Thunder predictions
Agreed that BvS marketing hurt it. Reception would have been better if people didn't know about Wonder Woman and Doomsday.
I think trailer culture has wained with the implementing of assigned seats. You used to have to get to the theater crazy early if you wanted a good seat and would obediantly sit and watch 20-30 minutes of ads. And we would judge these as an art of their own because they were so ingrained into our cinematic experience. Now I can skip all the trailers if I want to, get there just in time to see Nicole Kidman, having not been spoiled on every detail of every movie coming out. For us, trailers are important for predicting box office but there's no reason to really go out of your way otherwise.

Re: Thor: Love and Thunder predictions
First teaser is finally out. Looks beautiful but definitely less exciting than the ads for Doctor Strange. Nice first look at Natalie Portman though. Thinking 150m/400m or something of that ilk. Slightly below Multiverse of Madness.

If this is a spiritual follow-up to Our Flag Means Death this will be the greatest movie of all time.
Looks terrific.
