I have both at 20 Million in the game. Could easily be either. I don't think I could pick.

Bodies Bodies Bodies expands to 2,000+ theaters this weekend.

Orphan: First Kill is opening in theaters and premiering on Paramount+. It looks like it's going to be in more theaters than their March hybrid release The Contractor. That opened in 489 theaters. I notice a lot of theaters with showtimes for Orphan starting Thursday. I'm surprised mine is getting it. They didn't get The Contractor and I've never seen them advertise this. But even being on Paramount+ it makes sense for theaters to get this one. They're desperate for content.

I didn't realise Orphan 2 is opening in theatres - however its potential is severly dented. I think it could have been a solid hit if it wasnt streaming considering the first is well loved.

Beast could be set to over-peform - i.e. $15m+

Beast is having a pretty broad marketing campaign. I even saw it advertised during the Chelsea-Tottenham game. Maybe I'm being too hopeful because I have it in my draft, but I can see it performing really well. I'm thinking $17 million minimum.

Hope Beast does very well. Man v beast survival horror always works in late summer. Usually it is aquatic monsters though, so we will see how people take to lions.

I never expected Orphan to get good reviews. William Brent Bell doesn't have a very good track record. But damn it sounds awesome. Paramount should have done a theatrical only release.

In the August/September 2022 contest, I had predicted that Beast would do better than Dragon Ball. But Katnisscinaplex has tracked the Thursday presales of Beast (based on three cities: Jacksonville, Phoenix, Ralston). Beast's presales appear to only be a fraction of Bullet Train's. On the other hand Dragon Ball seems to have decent Thursday presales.
Also Grace Randolph, who has already watched Beast, said that the review embargo for Beast ends Wednesday. This is only one day before the Thursday previews. She said that usually means the movie studio isn't confident of its quality.

Beast already has 4 reviews. 75% fresh so far, but all from Spanish-speaking critics, and have usually have a different take on movies than their English counterparts.

I mean opening day for Dragon Ball will be great. But it will be more front-loaded than Beast.

Now it's at 80% with 5 reviews.

Beast is the perfect August #1 opener. Under 20 would be a missed opportunity when something like the Meg went 45/145.

Meg just had this fun camp factor. Beast looks ok but like it's meant to see at home. Sharks just seem more scary than lions at least in the trailer. I wouldn't be shocked if Dragonball doubles Beast but hope for a surprise where both surpass expectations. I was off on Mack and Rita but thought maybe someone would show up to see Diane Keaton which wasn't the case at all. :P

Beast reviews are good. Good thing they had them embargoed for so long.

Beast still only has 5 reviews, it could go significantly down

Same thing happened to Crawl a few years ago. Why are studios so ashamed of creature features that don't have sharks in them? Large cats, crocodilians, bears, hippos, etc... Are far more likely to kill someone in real life than sharks.

*edit - I forgot that The Grey did pretty well too. But they also sold that movie by promising that Liam Neeson would fight a wolf ... Which didn't actually happen on screen.

Post subject:  Re: August 19-21 Predictions

Just like Piranha 3D and Crawl, Beast actually received good reviews that weren't out until opening day. It could have been building buzz if they'd released them sooner. So stupid.

Beast is doing awful tonight at every theater I look at. Many showings are empty. I haven't seen any that are doing well. By far the most tickets sold for one I've seen is at my main theater and it has 6 tickets sold. Those seats were already sold early in the week.

I hope good reviews can turn things around for the rest of the weekend or this might actually flop.

Weirdly Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank has closed at 34 days, ending on a Wednesday. Will it not even finish reporting the week?
