Shang Chi doing $225M is Sept. 2021 was VERY GOOD imo considering the state of the box office and pandemic at the time. The first movie to hit $200M+ during the pandemic. Made more than Black Widow in July and Venom in October. #2 for the year 2021. Many restrictions were still in place but getting lifted before omicron hit late Dec. 2021 / Jan. 2022.

Eternals was bad, especially with its cast and getting beat by Shang Chi and Venom.

Walking out I heard a group hated it lol. I didn't hate it but its pretty lackluster, doubt WoM will be more than average.

I consider Shang Chi a big hit actually considering the context of it's release. Epic Labour Day wknd OW also.

Could be completely made up but having only DP3 in 2024 would give Disney enough time to rebuild MCU if the next movie is set to 2025 after that.

Firing Feige would be the dumbest overreaction ever. The problem is that the Disney+ content made the movies feel less special. Feige may have agreed to do the tv shows. He may have been arrogant to think that the audience would want to keep up with everything. But I highly doubt that's a decision he would have made without Disney+ launching and needing as much content as they could generate.

ViewerAnon is trolling here. There is no chance of this happening. That said there will be changes for sure. It appears they are reshooting Cap America movie as it did not test well(duh). I expect it to become a mini Avengers movie with less emphasis on Mckie.

No sound business would fire the guy responsible for a decade of $$$$ over a few bad decisions - many of which are the fault of Disney anyhow.

That would be a smart move after the incredibly dumb movie of having Anthony Mckie who is not a star and no one really cares about be the lead.

I am amazed by how consistent these MCU movies behave. its OW was exactly like how the OD presales foretold.
That said Disney did nothing of what I said above to improve the buzz. No early reviews/reactions or free fan screenings like Guardians 3(not surprised seeing its tepid WOM). So it had no catalyst to improve from its abysmal start to presales.

Looking at social media they seem to blame the SAG strike for this big a fall !!! Its not as if it would have doubled without it. Plus Disney seem to take no feedback from bad presale/buzz and just did nothing. I am not convinced seeing Brie and others on talk show circuit early would have helped.

I am also not sure what is more shocking. Domestic OW of 45.5m or overseas OW of just 63.3m and it opened everywhere including China/Japan. Most markets it hit new MCU low. Its as if post Thanos snapping his fingers fans lost interest in captain marvel !!!

Key overseas OW. I think only Indonesia is looking relatively ok.

Marvel aren't currently building up to anything at the moment. I think we need to go back to The First Avenger and the Thor era and judge recent MCU films against them. They were only able to manage huge grosses when people were looking forward to a culmination. Without anything like that in the near future, the MCU is just random solo movies right now.
