29m

Should do at least 72m OD and 150m OW, and that assumes DSITMOM level of front loading. should be less front loaded considering how it was so much less presale heavy

Seems strong.

Pretty decent. $150M is the bust number here and we're looking to cross it if only just barely. I think WoM will be stronger than MoM and combined with a Deader than Dead August, Love and Thunder could end up topping Dr Strange.

I think its missing 150m. Postrak numbers are horrendous. Worse than Eternals or DS2. I am expecting its saturday to drop like BW did last year. Dont forget DS2 had really bad saturday number for early May as well.

Quote:
The Thursday night preview audience exits from Screen Engine/Comscore’s PostTrak weren’t through the roof for an MCU movie last night — which is when all the die-hards come out — notching 3 1/2 stars from general audiences and a 63% definite recommend, and 3 1/2 stars from kids under 12. Parents liked it a bit better at 4 stars. General audiences repped 84% of all ticket buyers last night with 9% parents and 4% kids. The audience skewed 58% men, 42% females with 53% between 18-34. Men over 25 were the bulk at 34%, followed by women over 25 at 25%, men under 25 at 24% and women under 25 at 16%.

Thursday night PostTrak for Eternals was a 75% positive and 3 1/2 stars from general audiences, with a 57% recommend.

Bizarre that it would be more front loaded than Dr Strange despite far less hype. Seems like a film audiences would like, it's fun if nothing else.

So $135M OW with horrible WOM and already frontloaded, does that mean it possibly misses $300M?

I doubt it'll have MoM legs during the peak of summer weekdays.

B+ cinemascore.

No surprise. Though it looks great visually the Taika stupidity is wearing thin and turning people off.

I thought it could do 150m+ by virtue of being a marvel and Thor movie but maybe not.

It's doing well. Let's not forget that Thor has never been all that popular. He's not Iron Man. Audiences have had to warm to him over the years, and it's still an increase over previous outings. Don't let recent MCU successes fool you. Ragnarok "only" did $122 million opening weekend, so Love and Thunder doing $135-$150 million is still a positive sign. It's easy to get carried away, due to No Way Home and Multiverse of Madness, and expect every Marvel film to break records. But they can also just come out, do well, be extremely profitable, but leave the Earth un-shattered.

In terms of its CinemaScore, Thor got a B+, The Dark World bribed its way to an A-, and Ragnarok received an A, so a B+ isn't the direction they'd have wanted, sure, but it's still no lower than the lowest in the franchise. Not a disaster even though I must admit I was shocked when I saw Keyser Söze's post. Waititi fatigue, perhaps.

$135M off a $30M preview is like Twlilight territory of frontloadness. Have we really reached that point?

it may not be that low. Now I am hearing 70m friday. Let us see. May be 145m for the weekend.

69.5 m official for Thor. Solid # should end up with 140 mil for the weekend. With summer weekdays in full effect has a chance of topping DS2.

Thor Ragnarok's multiplier would get it to $183M.

Multiverse of Madness - $143.5M

Ant-Man and the Wasp - $156M (the last Marvel to open on a regular July 3-day weekend)

So still hope for $150M, but will probably fall just a bit under.

Shocked this did a worse multiplier than DSITMOM.

why postrak data is way worse than DS2. its seeing similar drops in many international markets. korea is looking at 40% drop from ragnarok. I expect this to finish below 400m in international and that would be below Ragnarok even if you take you china/russia. This is despite significant inflation in many markets.

EC is saying 40m early saturday. I wont be surprised if it goes below that.

It's not good. WOM isn't good.

Post subject:  Re: Thor Preview

EC is saying 41m saturday. So low 140s OW. Not bad at all on its own but in context of DS2 it looks meh. Plus with the Postrak numbers its legs will be not good. MCU movies have gotten frontloaded anyway with fans rushing to see it OW.

Post subject:  Re: Thor Preview

So it will end up with 350m+ total which is still ok and an increase from the first. Summer weekdays will help unless WoM is toxic which is unlikely even if it’s polarised.

A question to anybody that saw Thor: Love and Thunder: was a Black Panther: Wakanda Forever trailer attached?

Nope!

Guessing it’ll drop during SDCC in couple of weeks.
