I don’t know, Nope’s marketing has been very weird. It really isn’t selling what genre it is except that it’s from Peele. I can definitely see this being his Lady in the Water. But we’ll see how big his name is with this one

Hopefully Nope gets rave reviews because buzz feels almost non-existent. If reviews aren't great it's screwed.

Incredibly hard to predict. Drawing power for directors is so very inconsistent. It feels alot like Tenet and we never got to find out how that would have done in "normal" market conditions.

Black Phone has definitely shown the appetitie for a big horror though. And the three leads are as hot as they'll ever be. The market has been mostly friendly to non-Disney films all summer. There's a lot going for and against the movie. Good/bad reviews will probably make a huge difference, but what if its just like a 70 on metacritic? That doesn't help or hurt at all.

I really really hope Nope does well though. Otherwise Netflix is just gonna corner the market for the "let the directors do whatever they want" type of film and we still need those on the big screen.

I'm gonna predict $40/$100M. Disappointing compared to Us and Get Out, but still decent.

Yeah I'm starting to think Nope isn't gonna do huge numbers but hopefully it'll still do like $45m or so. I think the premise just isn't as appealing as Us or Get Out but hopefully people show up.

lol, as if critics would ever criticise a Jordan Peele film. They even gave Candyman 84% certified fresh, and that was a piece of shit. It is tantamount to career suicide these days to be critical of a black filmmaker.

Nope - $48m

Top Gun: Maverick is now up to 52 days over $1 million, which is equal to The Avengers. It would need its largest Sun-Mon decline ever to miss the $1 million mark coming off a Sunday of $3.8 million, so it's pretty much guaranteed it will reach 54 days with the usual Tuesday bump, which equals Shrek 2. I feel it might fall short of reaching The Phantom Menace by two days.

I'm guessing the embargo, particularly for a film of this nature, will be as late as possible.

I agree Nope will get good reviews and they are likely trying to keep the movie a mystery

Starts with 70 on MC. Seems like it will get an RT score in the low 80s high 70s

It's at 90% on Rotten Tomatoes after 60 reviews, but no actual written reviews are posted.

Where the Crawdads Sing is doing well on the weekdays. Considering the first Tuesday grosses have been about equal to the second friday grosses lately, thinking a sub 40% drop for it this upcoming weekend

Sounds like it will be much more crowd pleasing than Us from the reviews. Hope it can be leggy through August

How are presales?

Shows around here looks about 40-50% full, but I could help with that by switching my Friday ticket to Thursday.

Maverick is still in over 3,000 theatres in its ninth weekend.

Wouldn't be bad, just not a breakout. Hopefully WOM can at least propel it over 50.

So Deadline says $6.4 million Thursday preview sales for Nope. Nope's opening weekend could be 6.4 + 15 + 17 +12 = $50.4 million.
