Thor 150m. Let us hope final week PS takes it higher but these MCU movies are heavily fan driven and I expect majority to have their tickets already. Let us see how the reviews go next.

Reviews start at 65 on MC, 86% and 7.2/10 avg rating on RT. Consensus seems to be that it takes the comedy of Ragnarok and turns it up to 11, making for a fun if fluffy and unserious experience. Might make for better WOM than Dr Strange, but still nowhere near the slam dunk we would have hoped for after 4 consecutive Disney Marvel movies that failed to capture the imagination of the public.

With long weekend PS has stunk. That said MCU has a big fan base and so I am going with 140m OW. Slightly less than what I thought few days ago.

Feeling this will slightly disappoint and open below the Batman at this point.

Post Re: July 8-10 Predictions
Mid reviews for Thor is an unexpected twist. I figured that a wave of "this is the best Marvel movie since ___" reviews would put hype over the top for a huge opening. Feels like Dominion now where it will still make good money but its run won't be anything special.

I wonder if the shortened runtimes have affected the quality. I know MoM could have used another 10-20 minutes just for set up so the later events meant more.

Pretty funny that in post pandemic the only MCU entry to go over a billion is Sony's lol. I think Black Panther will probably do it but who knows.

That has even bigger challenge. 1st move hit the Zeigeist being one of a kind. Its almost improbable to get it back again for a sequel even if everyone is back. But its losing Chadwick makes it way worse. 2 best things about 1st movie Chadwick and Michael B Jordan(I think) not being there makes this very difficult to predict at this point.

No Chadwick Boseman and no Michael B. Jordan means Black Panther 2 will have less box office than Black Panther 1. Andrew Garfield's spider-man movies were less popular than Tobey Maguire's spider-man movies. It's hard to catch lightning in a bottle twice.

Marvel fans don't seem to let critics reviews discourage them from attending the opening weekend despite low critics scores. Tracking seems to indicate presales for Thor 4 exceeding those of The Batman and Top Gun: Maverick. But I'm guessing walk-up sales may be less because word of mouth will say Thor 4 is a good but not great MCU movie. John Campea said he liked Thor 4 but it isn't as good as Thor 3. I think it will end up much like Jurassic World Dominion. After the first 97 professional critics reviews listed by Rotten Tomatoes, Thor 4 only has a 68% score while Jurassic World Dominion has a 30% critics score after 371 reviews.

Michael B Jordan is supposedly in the film somehow. Hopefully in a couple weeks we get the first trailer :D

Ideally we should get it with Thor? Maybe post credit? Otherwise has to be with Nope.

No post credit scenes about BP2 for sure. 2 scenes(1 mid credit and 1 post credit) are already leaked.

Wednesday PS showed dramatic improvement(was slightly stronger than DS2). I think 150m could still be in play with good walkups. Let us see how things go today.

I feel MCU may finally on the way down. When Minions has more buzz with teenagers than Thor 4 it's not a great sign.

Well, Minions tapped into that social media (TikTok) trend potential. Would all these dressed up teens/young adults have gone otherwise?

I think, if there is actually a problem with Marvel, it's the disconnect between projects. They don't appear to be building towards any big team-up right now, and MoM introduced doubts over whether the tv shows even matter.

I'd say the odds on favorite for next team up is racial diversity Avengers with Shang Chi, Black Panther replacement, black Captain America, latin Black Panther/Shang Chi played by Bad Bunny, and Ms Marvel. I'd claim they go for LGBT points as well by making Captain Marvel a lesbian but after Lightyear they could panic and cut them out. If they do make her a lesbian I hope they don't think the short hair is a necessary add on, since she looks way better the old way.
