So I guess there wasn't a theater contract for Star Wars?

Only 9 movies above 1000 theaters, the lowest in a while.

It's all setting up for a HUGE theater count for Batman

I totally forgot Sharkboy and Lava Girl is opening next week, some marketing for that movie, it'll sink.

After more research, this number is actually the lowest of the year. Could the lowest ever too. Hard to imagine which week could see a movie that is in 685 theaters be in the top 10 count.

I've seen some commercials, and trust me, they should stop showing them right now. It's best hope is the movie attracting parents with the PG rating and the catchy title.

It would be pretty disgraceful if Shark Boy and Lava Girl ended up being a hit...

Also, I think Sony dropped the ball with Dogtown. Unless I'm forgetting something, this is the first big scripted release about skateboarding. A 2500 theater count could've got an opening of $20M.

It's possible. This movie screams Spy Kids (though it looks ten trillion times worse), and it's in 3D, which is a huge thing.

Ugh.

I find it interesting MIL remains above 3000. Its doing well, and probably deserves a good hold, but still.

They picked the perfect release date. Great counter-programming.

(Crappy movie, though.)

I don't think Lava will bomb that bad. Everyone thought the same thing about Spy Kids. Not that this is going to be THAT big.....
