Seems solid. This trailer was attached to everything lol

19.3m for TOP GUN.

That is a GIANT number for this movie. Outstanding start and given WOM, this may end up #1 overall by summers end.

top gun maverick 19.26m

I assume this includes the 20-30$ tueaday previews? regardless, seems amazing.

No Time to Die seems like a good comp. IF you adjust slightly down for the premium tuesday tickets, it still gets to 140-170 3 day

I am thinking 130m 3 day and 150-160m 4 day for now. Walkups yesterday tracked was lower than what I expected. But I expect weekend to be awesome as older audience should come in.

I would say TG:M has a very good chance at beating Dr. Strange now. It's clear the hype was real and the WOM is excellent.

Deadline reported that $19.3 million preview for Top Gun Maverick includes Tuesday and Thursday sales. That isn't too far off The Batman's preview of $21.6 million. So if The Batman can earn $134 million for its first 3 days (+ previews), then Top Gun Maverick can earn more than $110 million for its first 3 days (+ previews).

No but what the fuck??!! Lol that is seriously crazy. This potentially grossing more than The Batman and MoM is insanity. The legs on this should be excellent so how high it can go will be interesting.

Wow. The highest Mission Impossible opening will be cleared on day one. The sub $125M club is gonna fail after 3 days. It will become Cruise's highest grossing movie by the end of next week.

Crazy turnaround. Maverick just turned out to be the right movie at the right time. It might as well be called Marvel's American Sniper.

Also ... Paramount is kind of having a perfect year (at the box office at least, the Halo show seems to be a huge bust.) It's a shame they don't have much else on the schedule. Could have actually provided some competition to Disney for the annual #1 slot.

$50m Friday early projection from Deadline. No literally what?

Good that a non-superhero movie is able to do these #s.

That would be crazy front loaded. Hopefully it goes up

How much percentage is it ahead of BW, The Batman, Eternals and NTTD's true Friday?

Crazy part for Top Gun is it's probably not frontloaded.

Impressive for Bob's if it makes 15+. A Family Guy theatrical is overdue.

Based on preview numbers, TGM has under indexed big time at MTC. This could be because it plays stronger in heartland than SH movies. Plus this movie skews older. Al ready PS looks like 15-16m. I think this can hit 35m true friday. But we have to wait until evening to guess where its going to end up.

What's most impressive about this is it will play till July long weekend. The high end of this really is TBD and has a massive range.

More Kosinski / Cruise pairings please!

Post subject:  Re: Thursday previews

RTH just posted on BOT that TGM Friday(including gazillion days of previews) - 53m. Definitely see 4-day weekend above 160m.

Plus A+ Cinemascore. I am thinking 500m domestic is possible. Top Gun adjusted with all Imax/PLF surcharge would still be way bigger.

In terms of comparisons to what we are seeing, my initial gut is we may see a TPOTC type box office run here. The Passion saw a rapid spike in buzz and box office expectations build up from grassroots anticipation. Big appeal to the heartland and ability to pull in audience demos who haven't gone to the theaters in years. Possibility of repeat viewings. Expect to see group screenings similar to The Passion which drove its box office. It also spiked again in Easter week 7 and TG benefits from July long weekend week 6. AS followed that model as well but TG box office looks like it will follow TPOTC more so.

Passion adjusted for inflation would be at $184.66M (5-day OW) / $546,199,412 (Total).

The numbers are so early and unique pattern of previews that its too early to tell but from initial gut reaction that's what we could see. TG also has a lighter than usual season and Cruise's commitment to the theatrical experience will allow it to play in theaters all summer.

$51.8m Friday.

The Batman's Friday numbers (true Friday + previews) is $56.6 million, $4.8 million ahead of Top Gun Maverick's $51.8 million. Top Gun Maverick should easily do over $110 million for its first 3 days + previews.

Post subject:  Re: Top Gun previews/Friday

Most important number to pay attention to this weekend:

Quote:
Nearly 90 percent of Top Gun 2‘s Friday audience was over the age of 25, including 67 percent over age 35, 45 percent over 45 and 21 percent over 55.

What Spidy did for the under 34 set TGM is doing for the older audience set. 90% over 25 to drive these levels of box office returns and 45% over 45 on an opening day??? Demo split was 57% male / 43% female. What was the last movie to see 67% over 35 pull a $50M opening day??!! :noway:

The Lost City showed older females were willing to come back for the right movie but this is super promising of how much room TGM can still go. Only 10% under 25 on Friday tells me that if it becomes a zeitgeist watercooler movie it will skew younger in future weeks. It's super odd since the last two years movies started younger demo skewing with older audiences likely going in future weeks.

Based on these demographics split, there's a huge audience that hasn't even showed up to see this yet! It's going to be printing $$$ for a while.
