Tracking already putting this at $70-80m three weeks out is a VERY good sign that there could be enough there for a $100m+ opening. I'm starting to believe!

Too bad Barbie isn't coming out July 8. Think it could've crushed by itself and then play for the rest of the summer. But going against Oppenheimer is one of the buzzy things about it.

Post Re: Barbie predictions
Barbie's on the front of Time Magazine this week with a cast of Barbies from the movie. Going back the last big movie highlighted around the time of its release was Chadwick on the cover in February 2018 the week of BP's release I could find. The hype machine of this really is starting to give BP / Passion type vibes for its core audience before turning into zeitgeist films.

I certainly hope for box office sake, Barbie pulls it off and is as good as some say it is. WB already misled people on The Flash but feels like Barbie isn't going to go down that road.

Considering how 4 of the Twilight movies adjust now to $328M+ (with 2 over $350M+), if Barbie delivers $400M isn't impossible just highly improbable.

At this point I'm feeling a $130M+ OW as long as reviews are excellent. Warner Bros owns RottenTomatoes and they haven't lifted the review embargo yet so that gives me slight pause.

Given they can't really promote the movie anymore due to the strike I think last minute reviews will help if they are good.

They can still advertise, though. Just no premieres or junkets, which I'd argue offers nothing in terms of box office anyway. The film is already done in terms of where it needs to be to open across the country.

it would be a shocker to see it miss that at the moment. Presales are ahead of Guardians and pace is way better at this point. Friday presales are even stronger. Its at Wakanda levels already !!!

Wtf. I feel like its been discussed female driven films tend to be presale heavy but I guess we'll see. Doing more than WF for the weekend would be nuts.

I dont see OW go that high as it does not have all the PLF plus show count is no where close to Wakanda or Guardians. That said I am confident about 150m at this point. Its having so many near sellouts that spillover will be robust through the weekend. I am expecting a crazy sunday drop for sure.

If Barbie wins the summer, it will be the first non sequel to do so since Finding Nemo in 2003.

How are its presales compared to Spider-Verse?

JustLurking above summarized the presales for Barbie. Its overall number and pace is way ahead of spidey at the moment. I think only DS2 had comparable pace though MCU start is way stronger than Barbie and anyway its previews wont come close to DS2/Thor 4/Wakanda. But friday PS will finish ahead of all of them.

When some films get momentum, they just snowball into massive events.

Let's see how the legs are but if it can beat Spiderverse, it would be the first time since the dawn of the millennium that neither of the Top 2 films of the year are sequels (2000 Grinch/Castaway & 2001 Potter & FOTR).

Hm... so if reception ends up being good (likely, at least for the fenale demo) could this be #1 all of August...?

My prediction before its release is 175/510. It will play well entire summer alongside Oppenheimer.

I was running the numbers with a $150M opening and if WOM is solid I definitely think so, could have six weekends in a row at #1. Only issue might be if TMNT over-performs (although even that is diffused by its Wednesday opening) or if Blue Beetle reverses the DC underperformance trend.
