Pretty great for JJK.

Manga is the most popular category of books at all our bookstores, and online too, I believe. And they absolutely crush American comic book sales now in the US. Sales really took off in ~2018/2019. A new novel in a major popular series or by a well-established author will still sell more than the manga do, but manga sales as a whole are stellar due to backlog and new releases coming out so regularly. (Popular books on #BookTok also sell really, really well. Not uncommon to have a group of teens, presumably friends, come in and buy most of the stock of a book or two.)

All our stores have a manga dedicated table right at the entrance now. A couple of our busiest stores have to stock 30 copies (which was almost impossible in 2020/2021 due to stock issues) of the latest My Hero Academia and Jujutsu Kaisen volumes when they release every 2-3 months.

I suppose it can be linked to manga/anime being more available and widely distributed to kids/teens (or young adults, too) in the past 5+ years (streaming, apps, etc.), so it's been growing substantially in popularity as a result of this.

I think what helps more than anything is that anime/manga started to take hold as a niche youth thing in the 2000s, and a lot of that audience has actually stayed rather devoted to it in the 15-20 years since while it continues to bring in new younger fans every year. I was amazed when I went to see the IMAX preview screening of Belle and how it was like, 75% full, almost all people 18-35 with no real bias towards any gender. It's honestly pretty cool that there is any type of movie that has seen its box office footprint grow over the last 5 years (outside of superhero movies and maybe horror).

The guys I work with in the 30s range all seem to be interested in UFC and anime.
