2024 is looking at some big contenders and the return of superhero mega blockbusters

Joker 2 - R rating but exceptional buzz, legs and awards attention for original. Highly anticipated. Musical impact TBD.
Deadpool 2 - Has made $320M+ twice with DP alone. Hugh + X-men factor has huge upside.
Spider-verse 3 - Probably won't be far off from last movie so hover $350-400M range.

Darkhorses

TPOTC 2 - Wildcard but if SoF can do $100M I feel like TPOTC2's ceiling is much, much higher.
Snow White - TLM will do $300M+ and Snow White does feel like Disney's most iconic princess.
Inside Out 2 - First one made big money. Can this pull an Incredibles?
Despicable Me 4 - This IP continues to be strong with Minions doing $370M in 2022.
Mufasa - Big wildcard but TLK IP is strong.
Captain America - Likely not but still a big tentpole.
LOTR - I don't know what to expect here but lots of fans. Though animation will cap it.

Agreed though, Deadpool feels like the favorite. If Joker were PG-13 I could maybe have seen a Dark Knight type jump. Admissions wise Joker 2 could win the year and box office revenue wise could be DP if they do end up being close.

I forgot about Joker 2 - yes it could be the closest contender to Deadpool 3 at this point. The X-men introduction to the MCU + Deadpool’s return bodes well for a strong gross.

Joker has a large general audience fan base but the jury is out on the musical aspects.

Mufasa could be a dark horse with its prime summer release date even if the live action TLK wasn’t loved.

TPOTC Resurrection doesn’t have a confirmed release date yet does it? I also think Beyond the Spiderverse will delayed.

If the trailers look good I like Joker 2 being massive. I think there's a decent amount people out there where the original is one of their favorite movies. It tapped into a psychological place for a certain type of person.

So as if Hugh and the revival of a whole bunch of characters fans are excited to see wasn't enough, it was also rumored that Taylor Swift herself has a cameo in DP3.

This was already going to be massive but lots of Swifties who want to watch it will need their parent's permission since it will be rated R. If she does end up in this though I really don't know how big this could be.

There was a rumor but it all seems likely true that Swift is in this. After she showed up to an NFL game with Wolverine and Deadpool himself today seems like a high, high likelihood that she's joining in some capacity.

If Swift can push a concert movie to $200M+, what can she do by joining the MCU??

DP was already primed to do possibly $450M+. Swift involved at all, while challenging for her younger fans to see, could re-energize the box office grosses, especially for Xmen.

She was in Amsterdam and that bombed but it was before her explosion of popularity this year so who knows.

... I know the superhero genre is pretty down in the dumps rn but if anything is huge it'll be this. 150m+ opening.

Deadpool, like GOTG, always felt apart from the usual superhero movies because it's a comedy, so I don't think the genre imploding will affect this.

This is going to be huge. It's been probably a good since pre pandemic that the trailer already has a mashup of reactions from like 40+ people. The most I've seen in years is like 12 people done days later. This is hours later. I'm going bold now that this could do 200+ OW. X-men comes to Disney and gives MCU a much needed reprieve.

And I still haven't watched DP2 in it's entirety which is kind of ridiculous. I'm so in to see if there is going to be any Logan spillover into the story and I'm just so excited to see where Jackman took the role. Easily going to be the most hyped film since No Way home. Also, I I'm really interested so see now that Reynolds is so popular in the soccer world if this could really explode internationally as well unlike the first two films.

I feel like other than RDJ's Iron Man, Jackman's Wolverine may be the most iconic comic book portrayal in modern times or possibly just after Ledger's Batman.

Regardless, the bump up of having Wolverine (9 movies in 17 years) returning for an appearance in a new movie 7 years later has huge rush out factor possibly even more so than 3 Spider-mans in Spider-man in 2021.

Both DP movies are at $315M+ unadjusted (DP1 $471M, DP2 $386M adjusted) not counting re-releases, so feels like Wolverine and what's expected to be a number of other returning X-men and MCU characters gives this $500M+ potential.

I loved the trailer, nice one liners and the shadow spot with Wolverine was perfect. This looks like a good opportunity for Marvel to have its Robbie Babylon/Amsterdam to Barbie comeback.
