 The Bad Guys Predictions
This trailer gets a good reaction whenever I see it, and it seems to echo the comedic light heartedness of recent successful animated films.
I could see 35m opening and over 100m total.
I actually think Fantastic Beasts will be the fourth highest grosser of the month after this, Sonic and Morbius. It wouldn't totally shock me for Ambulance or UWOMT get close to it as well, as I expect those will be in thee 75m-95m range, and I expect Fantastic beasts to open sub 40m and flame out with sub 100m domestic.

 Re: The Bad Guys Predictions
They should've moved this to March 18...
I feel like it'll open in the 20s and have decent legs.

 Re: The Bad Guys Predictions
I had the trailer with Dog and Marry Me and it looks cheap and awful. Like something that would go Direct-to-DVD. Had this come out now though it could have done pretty decent. There's been nothing for kids and that audience is starved for something new to watch. That can really benefit a cheap looking animated movie. Similar to when Weinstein released Escape From Planet Earth over President's Weekend after not having a kids movie release since Rise of the Guardians on November 23rd (unless you count the 3D re-release of Monsters, Inc. over Christmas but it didn't make much and wasn't new product). But with Sonic 2 coming out two weeks before The Bad Guys I feel like they'll have missed their chance for a hit. Audiences will have a bigger kids movie out. Like publicenemy said they should move it up to March 18th. Though President's Day weekend would have been an even better date.

 Re: The Bad Guys Predictions
The animation does look cheap. Not bad, exactly, just cheap. The backgrounds look really lazy though, confirming the budget was certainly low. Based on the trailer, there are animated films from 10, 15+ years ago that look better than this does.
And yeah, March would have been pretty ideal spot. Releasing it so soon after Sonic 2, FB 3, and 2 weeks before Dr. Strange 2 is pretty dumb. Only the most starved family crowds/animation fans will turn out, I feel.

I didn't think it looked cheap, I was thinking more stylized. It looks as good as any Illlumination film

 Re: The Bad Guys Predictions
When I first saw the trailer I kept going back and forth between "this is an interesting spin on CGI animation" and "this looks so ugly" and was kinda shocked when I found out at the end it was DreamWorks. Their animation styles have been inconsistent over the years, but this looks kind of annoying even beyond the animation. They definitely should have moved this into March once Turning Red moved to D+, as it will be the first animated wide release in nearly four months, but then the Super Pets movie opens only four weeks later. Assuming it isn't kneecapped by another last-minute Peacock decision, it could still make decent bank - $20M opening, $70M total?

Dreamworks mostly gets good reviews. Even the Trolls movies are fresh despite being mediocre.

 Re: The Bad Guys Predictions
This lucked out a little with Superpets moving to the end of summer, now it'll have the family demo completely to itself until Lightyear in the middle of June. If it opens high enough it might even be able to stay in wide release until then, the way Sing 2 has been in wide release for over three months now.

The 10-15m tracking seems absurdly low. Can't see it doing sub 20m.

Why the hell is this coming to VOD on May 12th? That crap needs to stop. Especially when something is a hit.

Universal has the 17 day window still for films opening under 50m and 31 days for films opening over 50m. Same reason Sing 2 went to vod so fast. Luckily PVOD is incredibly expensive and has little effect on box office, as evidenced by Sing 2

Unless a movie totally bombs.
