Joker 2 has a serious shot at $500M+. October 2024 could have the best opening of that year.

It looks like HBO Max will be fine, Zaslev is hyping it up today. They are launching a new service in 2023 with it and Discovery.

Seems like Batgirl got caught cause they're now 100% done with releasing movies on streaming and it didn't feel big enough for theatres. It wasn't even supposed to cost 90 million it only got up there because of covid and reshoots. Feel like they still could have released it and then stopped releasing movies on streaming after that, but I guess they want DC movies to feel eventful. Not releasing the Scooby Doo movie makes less sense, can't see how there was much harm in it.

Zaslav has the unenviable position of trying to correct the all-over-the-place course the previous regime had things going. His big point about diluting the brand with non-theatrical level content is obviously accurate. They want things to feel like a big deal and releasing large amounts of streaming content lowers the perceived value for sure, that isn't arguable. Investing big in quality, high profile adaptions for Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Joker, etc is obviously the way to go. Does anyone think Wonder Woman 2017 does what it does if that horrendous TV pilot actually aired in 2012? Their commitment to major theatrical releases should be welcomed by artists.

Committing to big theatrical releases is good. Shelving 2 nearly complete films and pivoting a streaming service (Max name will likely be gone in a year) is just bad publicity. Idk I guess we'll see where we are in a couple of years cause I doubt we'll have a Superman project in production anytime soon unless we really get the black Superman project...

Excel is right. The changes are for the better, and nobody truly cares about Batgirl and some Scoob! sequels. Internet murmurings aren't representative of the whole, and this time next month its trending life will be a thing of the past. Zaslav seems to know what he's doing, and these big moves were needed to get Warner Bros. back on track - which it isn't yet but it's early days.

I half wonder if Top Gun: Maverick had anything to do with Zaslav's decision to prioritise theatrical projects, because it really has shown that the streaming boom wasn't the future but just a big change that was needed for a while to get us through a struggling time. It still has its place, of course, but all the results of the tests over the last couple of years can now be seen and it's clear to see that releasing films like Wonder Woman 1984 online doesn't do the studios any favours when the marketplace is normal and healthy.

The WB/HBO Max was suicide. WW84 would have challenged 150m opening weekend in normal times. Matrix 4 would have done much better. it lost them Chris Nolan.

These are tough calls that simply have to be made.

Highly doubt that. Zaslav is not green lighting anything from JJ Abrams/Bad Robots  NOPE! He's moving on from that ridiculous contract the old regime made with JJ. Pretty much said it in interviews without saying it out right.

of course he could change his mind and announce a Black Superman movie during Discovery Investor Day later this year

Zaslav said in an interview that Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Black Adam, and The Flash are terrific and they want to make them even better. This is a bit worrying for Black Adam, the first one of those to be released. It is the most likely to be delayed, which would be uncalled for because they have pretty good dates in pretty open schedules.

WB regularly losing the release date schedule war to Disney is a MASSIVE problem. None of their properties break out big enough to the extent that sequels will scare away competitors.

I hope they don't move any of the next three films. Especially Black Adam which has a desolate fall season to open into which will help it.

Black Adam is not moving. No worries there.

Only Shazam, Aquaman 2 & The Flash are moving.

Warner Bros is looking like it is in a dangerous situation, similar to Paramount a few years ago, which is odd because in the 2000s, they were the kings of the entertainment industry with Harry Potter and Batman dominance

Unlike Paramount though, WB has an enormous amount of IP at their fingertips.

I don't know why they haven't just announced Jacob Elordi as Superman. What are they waiting for?

They’ll only do white Superman if black Green Lantern is official

Yup. I agree. God forbid they announce him as Superman without paying homage to the woke gods.

Release date shuffle; Aquaman 2 now has 2023's prime release of weekend before Christmas.

Cannot believe it took them 5 years to get it out, but it is probably in the running for #1 of 2023 now.

Doubtful. The time to cash in on an Aquaman sequel has passed. Quantumania, Guardians Vol. 3, The Little Mermaid, Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning - Part 1, and Rogue Squadron all have a better shot, in my opinion.
