Scream - 3.5m

Seems pretty strong and indicates 25m+ for the 4-day. For a time where we're pretty much at the peak of the pandemic... great #s

Candyman did 1.9m, I don't see this doing less than 30m 3 day with this previews.

Great number for it! I was hoping for 3m+ so this is solid. Halloween Kills had a 10 multiplier from its previews. That had pretty bad WOM and I think Scream will have at least good WOM. Add in the holiday on Monday, and I could see this pulling 35m+ for the 3 day. The one thing working against it is that omicron has us in a much worse position (at least case wise) than October.

Unless its abnormally front loaded, it should easily be over $40m by end of Monday.

I hope so. I can't see a CinemaScore lower than a B+ but there's a very good chance it gets an A-. Hopefully strong WOM gives it a great multiplier.

Scream 5 opening higher than Scream 4's total will go down as one of the great box office mysteries.

I think the change in distributors helped. Scream 4 was handled by Weinstein and also had a ton of production problems behind the scenes, meanwhile you could tell from the beginning that Paramount went ALL IN on the marketing muscle for this one and did a good job of selling the nostalgia factor of the many ties to the first movie. Plus it ties into the 25th anniversary of the franchise.

Scream 4 was lazy from a marketing and a release date standpoint. It kind of fell into that lazy American Pie 4 camp where people just assumed the brand was still super strong. And it came out in April (a notoriously bad month for horror) and had Fast Five and Thor as competitors.

Also not helping Scream 4 was horror competition from sleeper hit Insidious.

They did a good job of making this one feel like an event. Great reviews and a holiday weekend to itself certainly helped. Plus it's the only big movie releasing this month. It really has a perfect release date. It's still impressive AF if it can gross more than the total of the previous in one weekend though.

Anyway can't wait for the next one.

Scream 4 was just kind of a freakish flop. It should've never been that low.

How about Scream 5 opening over The Matrix 4 total? That one will never get old.
