 Re: Weekend Estimates
68% drop for Matrix Resurrections the weekend after Christmas and after a Wednesday opening.
Worst drop of all time?

 Re: Weekend Estimates
From just the % perspective Matrix's drop is not even close to worse drop off all time but for the weekend and same setup it very well might be. And there is a chance that King's Man might outcross it.

 Re: Weekend Estimates
Spidy enters the top 10 of all time! Fascinating now that a $600M total isn't enough to get to the top 10 now alone. $700M will soon be not enough to get to the top 5.
Pre SW Ep. 7 in 2015, SW Ep. 1 was #5 with $474,544,677. Now its #19.

 Re: Weekend Estimates
Spidey will get to $800m international by next weekend wow. Wonder how close to 1 billion it'll get without China.

 Re: Weekend Estimates
What's China's reason for not showing Spider-Man? Still pissed about Shang-Chi and Eternals? Someone voice support for Taiwan? Did they dig up an old video of someone involved talking about Winnie-the-Pooh?

Don’t want to take away from the gross of their propaganda films.

Don’t want to take away from the gross of their propaganda films. This. It's all politics. China's strategy towards foreign releases has changed. Now they only allow them to be released theatrically once already released globally on streaming platforms. This way they can act innocent, claiming fair play and that they allow foreign films, but with confidence that the films (due to piracy) will not gross much in their market. All the while it supports their narrative that the Chinese people no longer care for foreign stories, they only love the country and propaganda films about wonderful China. And they're not the sort of nation to say "well, Spidey has handily beaten Changjin, let's show it now anyway because it won't make a difference, and we want our people to have enjoyment". They don't give a crap about the Chinese people. Not that withholding a foreign release is a huge human rights violation, lol, but it's just more proof that in China government policy and controlling the narrative come before anything else.

 Re: Weekend Estimates
Indeed the recent strategy for foreign release in China is baffling and the movies were making a lot of money for them as well (from what I understand studios only got 25% share).

Nightmare Alley didn’t look like a huge hit but it’s still a pretty big bomb. Won’t gross half of Mimic from 1997.

 Re: Weekend Estimates
Ontario is shutting down theaters as of Wednesday. Adding in Quebec's, that's 6.5% of the domestic market population. Toronto is a major film market so not shocked if this impacts box office 8-10%. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/busin ... 235069095/
