I agree, and I'm afraid it's an ominous sign of possible things to come. At least in my area, there was no fear - moviegoers were back in force.

zwakerm mentioned above that Universal has been giving their films that open below $50 million a 17-day theatrical window, and I've since seen it mentioned elsewhere. So, I guess this was determined two weeks ago, just not marketed/advertised. (They could have changed their decision though since it's been doing pretty well.)

Going to the movies is quite safe with pretty basic measures. Basically, keep a reasonable distance when buying tickets/food, and don't sit all up on someone (unless he's hot and gives consent), and it's a very minimal risk.
