Post Morbius Predictions

So I've heard rumblings this is bad and getting dumped in January for a reason. It should have some interest with the Spider-Man connection, but I'm thinking a 35/90 run right now.

Guessing this won't be like Venom. Despite those movies being... not good Hardy as Venom is a plus. Highest I see for opening is probably like 45m. Gonna go with like 34m rn.

I liked the trailer and think general audience will eat this up. $50m/$150m total.

Moves to April 1... seriously? Lol if anything they could've delayed it to President's Day holiday weekend. Now it's gonna go after Batman and then have Sonic in its 2nd weekend? ... uh... ok

That's a stupid move but given that Spidey is still rolling huge numbers I can see them trying to distance it.

What the heck, it’s literally the perfect January movie.

Now there’s only 5 wide releases this month. Scream will probably do 20m OW, maybe Redeeming Love can tap into the Christian audience to a decent debut. But I can’t imagine 355, Kings Daughter or Cyrano will do much.

Apparently it is because they want to continue to push Spider-Man all month. I can’t imagine it will do that well that it wouldn’t be pretty much played out by the 28th? Like realistically it can probably make like 30m, 20m, 15m, and 10m each weekend in January. Like they’re maybe going to add 10m to Spidey’s gross.if it holds well in January.

Yeah they're full of it. That's not the reason. Like zwack said Spider-Man will be pretty played out by the time Morbius comes out. They're being really stupid. Could have broken out nicely being one of two wide releases in January. This is leaving room for Scream to really break out though which I'm cool with. I wasn't feeling this doing big numbers but it might have some staying power for a horror movie. Regardless this is so stupid.

Well, there are some European markets where Spidey hasn't opened yet because of theater closures - if MORBIUS were to open in January there would be just two weeks in between...

Silly move. It was actually in the perfect spot.

Maybe they’re filming an Andrew Garfield end credit scene

How bad can it be? Venom would be solid.

I actually think this has more to do with Uncharted. Morbius is probably good for a 40-60 opening. Uncharted I guess gets the next film in relation to Spider-Man because it has Holland so it probably increases it's chances at 25+ opening.

Early word on this is that it's just boring, not bad in any sort of interesting way.

People may save their money for Sonic, but still can't see this going below 35m OW unless it gets like monumentally poor WOM

Apparantly presales are good so I'm not expecting sub-40m anymore. If this is **** but does well like Venom then... very strange

Presales have been quite good. Its initial start was ahead of Venom 2 !!! Of course Venom 2 had insane final week and this wont be in the same ballpark. Still looking good for 7m+ previews. That should be sufficient to get an OW of 50m+ unless reviews are disastrous.

Seems like presales have fallen off a cliff a bit after a strong start?

Reviews are awful. I've been 50/50 on seeing it (at least in theaters), but these reviews are so low that I doubt I'll give it a go. If it was like 40% or even 30%, perhaps, but not an average in the teens. It's the worst-received comic superhero film since... Fantastic Four, right?

Is this film connected to any ongoing universes, or is this a standalone?

It's part of the Venomverse, but Michael Keaton's Vulture is also somehow in it. A variant maybe? Who knows...

The director also did the god awful Life. It takes a lot of hard work to make a bad movie with Jake Gylenhaal. Mixing him with Jared Leto was always gonna be a pass from me.

But the terrible reviews did not stop either Venom movie.

It will still open between 40 and 50m but will drop like a rock, especially with all the competition coming up. Could be a contender to open to 50m and miss 100m total

My friend asked if I wanted to go to an employee screening last night at the theater she works at. I said yes. They ended up not doing it because nobody wanted to go :funny:. I doubt I'm even going to go see it anymore. Sounds awful. They should have just released it in January like planned. The lack of competition would have benefited it.

Sounds like there will be piles of regret from those that typically ignore reviews.

I still have no desire to watch it, but the meme culture that has developed around it is highly amusing. Its Morbin Time!
