Ryan Gosling apparently is going to play Ken. Greta Gerwig directing to follow Lady Bird and Little Women Co-written script with Noah Baumbach coming off of Marriage Story. Margot Robbie producing and staring at Barbie. Could a Barbie Movie be a major breakout and Oscar darling? This feels like it could be, a sentence I never in a million years thought was possible. |

The cast in front and behind doesn't mean this will do good at Oscars. It will all depend on how they approach the material. They have to go for arthouse light treatment in which case Barbie title would just be a namesake. |

It they went mainstream maybe peanuts numbers best, but they’d have to fire on all cylinders and camp it up like Flintstones, lego Movie, etc. Otherwise artsy or behind the scenes type might do well in limited |

What type of movie is this? is it a comedy? does it have a serious story? is it actually adapting the toy or is it just inspired? I'm very confused what this movie even is. |

The mystery around it seems to be a positive for now. I'd keep it that way for a while longer. And the "tickets to Barbie" meme it's generated is great. |

With Gerwig at the helm it will be a woke-feminist movie, so there's over half of your population already alienated. There will be intrigue as it's a pretty weird concept but I cannot see this breaking out. I'm obviously not the target demo, but is Barbie even relevant anymore? It feels like such a toy/brand of yesteryear. Obviously it will get good reviews as it's a capital offence to be critical of female talent, but I can't envisage this being a hit. And Ryan Gosling is no guarantee of success, but he does somewhat elevate the film's profile, which can be a blessing or a burden. |
