This is a lucrative spot for horror movies plus there hasn't been one for last few months. Don't think it will surprise but it should do respectable numbers.

Yeah so inflation will give it a boost lol.

Scream 4 was 11 years after Scream 3 and the gap didn’t make anyone care.

Mmm idk. I remember how surprised I was when Scream 4 came out and it opened "low". If this opens above that then that'd be fine tbh but I could see this disappointing.

Yeah it was surprising and disappointing when Scream 4 underwhelmed at the box office. I have a hard time seeing this breaking out. It doesn't look like one that will. Would love to be wrong though. Quick theaters get the trailer with every print of Spider-Man.

So Morbius just moved, which makes me think that there isn’t a whole lot of confidence in the marketplace right now. With covid pretty much guaranteed to get worse (at least case count wise), I don’t know that this can break out. Some areas may even close theaters for a few weeks. Horror fans were among the first to come back to theaters though and younger people are less likely to be concerned about getting covid so maybe it will balance a bit.

It’s bizarre. Spider-Man is still drawing huge crowds, I don’t buy that people won’t come out for good films. Maybe they won’t come out for shit films anymore, which Morbius probably is.

Morbius seems Venom quality and they came out for that. People would go to Morbius. Audiences will like it enough I'm sure.

Also theaters would be dumb to close because of the dire release slate in January. Spider-Man is still bringing in a lot of people. Sing is bringing in some people as well. Add Scream and they can ride it out. They've operated with much less in the way of offerings.

There literally being 3 new wide releases this month... lol wtf. And all 3 combined probably won't even come close to what Spider-Man will make the whole month lol

With such little offerings it'd be nice to see some nice legs for holdovers but we'll see...

Isn’t there 4 new wide releases plus the expansion of Cyrano?

The 355 (low budget actioner, maybe 20m total
Scream
The Kings Daughter (long delayed fantasy with very little marketing, probably a bomb with sub 10m domestic.
Redeeming Love (biggest wild card, if it gets the faith audience to come out could do ok.)

I really hope this breaks out (i.e. over $60m gross). Without Morbius on the horizon - this could be the only game in town for a while.

Thinking this will have a $30m+ OW (4-days). I think the 90's nostalgia factor will help this one far more than Scream 4 when it hadn't really set in yet.

From there legs will be short but a total of $60-$80m should result with almost no competition in sight.

Apparantly tracking is $35-40m for the 4-day... I don't buy it but would be a welcome surprise!

Yeah I'm not super convinced either. But I'd love to see it. January is usually great for horror and this could be the rare January one that actually doesn't suck.

The trailer has been well received at my theater but I'm still not convinced. I'm hoping the movie is actually good.

We will find out tonight. Though screening reactions have to be taken with a grain of salt. I highly doubt they're negative. Still excited for them even if they're generally skewed.

If that's the case (and I also think that's a bit high) - $25-$30m is highly doable which is still good.

Anything over 25m would be excellent IMO, especially considering it might hold well with no big competition. A 25m OW should guarantee 60-65m total and potentially 70m+

It could be that the nostalgia factor is stronger now than it was 11 years ago (American Pie 4 also tanked a year later) + the Scream MTV series in between was a mild success potentially bringing in a younger audience as well. This also looks a tad better than the 4th film and has the long weekend all to itself.

It's opening very wide at 3500 thtrs and pre-shows begin 7pm Thursday.

Early reaction has me officially excited. I didn't think it looked that great and was having a hard time getting excited for it but it sounds like it's a good one.

I think just over 4 would be a win. If it does open in that range this and Spider-Man could have similar #s for the weekend
