Re: No Time to Die - what went wrong?
I think it would be fun to do a James Bond multi-verse of villains. New Blofeld was a dud but bring back Oddjob, Jaws, Goldfinger, and Dr. No. The stakes need to be raised. They don't have to keep re-inventing new villains. Anchor with some of the tried and true. Maybe The Rock could play Jaws since he's the go to guy for upleveling franchises?

I agree the next thing this franchise needs to do is raise the stakes in terms of villain. Having said that Skyfall worked so well because of the mystery and spy stuffs were handled very well IMO.

Its overseas performance is bigger than Rise of Skywalker. Even if it remains an incredibly overseas heavy franchise, Bond is good for probably at least another decade with another actor, even if North America doesn't care as much.

Bond has never really needed the US. This is doing well. No pandemic abs it would have beaten Spectre.

Yeah even with the looooooong delay it managing to get pretty close to Spectre is pretty insane.

Re: No Time to Die - what went wrong?
Nothing went wrong, in my opinion. It's going to reach $160 million domestically, which is just $40 million less than Spectre. That drop off can be attributed to the pandemic. When all is said and done, it will finish seventh for the year just ahead of A Quiet Place Part II. Spectre finished tenth in 2015.
Globally, and away from comparing its dollar amounts to films in a non-pandemic era (because that doesn't make much sense), the only film to beat it this year will be Spider-Man: No Way Home (not counting Chinese films as they're not operating on a level playing field). I think that's pretty impressive.
