With Shyamalan you never know how the movie turned out - if OLD is a stinker, 50 % of its weekend gross could come from Friday (i.P.)...

At the same time, it's a wide open summer with so few films that if it was ever a breakout hit, there's always a slim chance of a late summer sleeper. The market is completely ripe for it.

Old is primed to break out. But it does needs solid reviews and WOM.

Interesting to see so many predicting Old to breakout. So far it has shown no signs. Release so far look small and PS is almost non existent. Unlike SJ2 last week which clearly showed signs of breakout. I think 15m OW at best but I hope I am wrong and this has crazy good walkups to take it lot higher.

Snake Eyes $15-16m
Old $12-15m

They expect Space Jam to keep hold of #1 with just a 45-50% drop

Presales are very weak for both new openers

Space Jam almost certainly will not be #1 unless both Old and Snake Eyes go below $15m. Don't think so. Even if Space Jam is a "family" movie I think it'll drop 55%+.

Yeah Space Jam will not hold onto #1. There's no way it will have that many audience still clamouring to see it.

pro1986 posted variety numbers few posts above. I am still surprised that Old is tracking that bad, thought it would do well enough for $30m OW with a chance for $40m

I am confident 30m is impossible. Its release is small and it has negligible presales. I think Snake eyes will have slightly bigger OW but one of the holdovers could win the weekend depending on how low things go. Black Widow should have better hold than Space Jam as 2nd weekend holds have not been great and Space Jam OW was very front loaded.

I'm gonna revise my predictions to Snake Eyes does 17 and Old does 15. I'd like both to open over 20m but eh.

Old had a 73 on meta 15 minutes ago but is down to 61 now. Someone important really didn’t like it. :ohmy: :hahaha:

If Old doe open that low what does it mean for the overall box office? Was I (and a few others) just completely wrong about its appeal, or are audiences only willing to come out for the safe, major franchise event blockbusters? In the Heights is holding Old’s hand right now, whispering encouragement.

In my area both Old and Snake Eyes look to be doing ok. Hopefully both do over $1.4m in previews.

Old needed great reviews to break out. I have confidence that films people want to see will do well going forward.
