Wouldn't have expected too much more for Peter Rabbit, honestly.

In the Heights is probably victim of HBO Max cutting heavily into its earnings at the box office. It's a film more would likely stream than something like Godzilla vs. Kong.

Is Warner Bros. commited to the simultanous release on HBO Max with all their 2021 films? If so, this is probably a sign of a mixed bag of hits and didappointments to come over the year depending on the streaming vs. theatrical appeal of each individual film. Either way, I doubt it hurts WB at all. Higher streaming viewers is likely more profitable for them anyway.

There's a slight chance that AQP2 could re-claim the No. 1 spot...

Yeah I think without streaming I think In The Heights would've done 7m+ or something. I think theaters for ITH are probably more fan driven then general audience, as opposed to a blockbuster like GvK or Mortal Kombat. The way WB has been breaking down #s I'm guessing we won't know how it did Thursday but I expect a drop today.

No official numbers yet, but three more openers should crack the Top Ten: HOUSE NEXT DOOR, QUEEN BEES and 12 MIGHTY ORPHANS...

If In the Heights did 1m+ on Thursday Peter Rabbit was the #1 movie for Friday lol

Not really if you exclude PR2's previews ($0.9m)...

AQP2 ($3.75m) could be the real Friday champion though...

Well the top news of the weekend then is that AQP2 has passed $100M!

Now the first film of the pandemic to reach this milestone.

Last film to do it was the critically acclaimed Sonic The Hedgehog which opened Feb. 14th, 2020.

16 months between $100 M films.

The last long gap I could find between $100M movies was 1978-1980 when National Lampoon's Animal House opened in July 1978 and the next $100M movie was Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back in May 1980 (22 month gap).

You skipped SUPERMAN and EVERY WHICH WAY BUT LOOSE (both December 1978) and KRAMER VS. KRAMER (December 1979)

Whoops. For some reason Box Office Mojo's calendar 1979 gross only shows $93M for Superman in 1979.

The numbers has In The Heights at $11.4M in second place. But that's weird right? It's too low for a 3-day and too high for a 2-day. Unless it really was that frontloaded...

Maybe if that Friday numbers included a bigger Thursday number in it. If not that's a really surprising 3-day number.
