Great opening all things considered. Ready for Black Widow to do its thing.

Haha $70m on the dot. Looks like it was frontloaded and didn't get a great IM, could be either COVID related or just WoM we'll see over the coming days. Great opening should best AQP'2 total with this opening.

It had a better IM than F8! We’ll see where the actuals land.

Yeah I forgot about F8 and kept on looking at H&S. I also think it's impressive that F9 being in summer has better IM than F8.

Very nice. Also think it wouldn't have done significantly better under normal circumstances.

This sets a success bar of sorts for Black Widow to reach, too. Anything less I'd considered disappointing and/or the negative impact Disney+.

I really couldn’t see F9 doing better than 80-85m in normal times, and honestly considering how meh the reception was of F8, it honestly may have done about the same.

$97M weekend is just barely below Onward's 1st weekend of March 2020. The last real weekend pre-shutdown of normal box office. Amazing recovery that took nearly 15 months but fascinating to watch. It's like seeing 100 years of box office growth over such a short window.

I do wonder if we'll see dips across streaming platforms as people look for more excuses to go outside and with the rise of so many platforms.

Very surprised it kept the 70m. Nice and a win for the box office.

This reminds me of Transformers: AoE $100m opening, it definitely does not sound true but who is going to question this anyways.

Staying above $70m is the moral victory we needed.

Indeed it will be interesting to see where F9's total lands but as of now I see it below H&S. WW there is no way F9 can beat H&S now.
