Could Hollywood survive without China box office?
As China is accounting for more and more of the global box office, while at the same time becoming more and more obviously corrupt, there may come a day when the pros of cow towing to China in Hollywood are less than the cons. When that day comes and Hollywood has to stop doing business with China, will film even remain a profitable venture?

Er... yeah. Doesn't a studio only get like a third of China's box office? I don't think Hollywood only relies on China even if they do try and cater to them. Stuff like Joker and Suicide Squad didn't have China and still did well.

Re: Could Hollywood survive without China box office?
The box-office is minor. The reason why any of these 'China is taking over Hollywood' stories exist is cause of financing. People don't realize how much Chinese money is involved in financing/production.
The whole thing in Top Gun 2 with the change in uniform to appease China is less about the box-office and more about the fact that Tencent is producing the film.
John Cena is apologizing not because of the box office potential of F9 but because he wants to work in films in the future and those films are going to have Chinese financiers.
So while Hollywood can survive without China box office, it (like many other industries) cannot survive without Chinese investors.

They will survive. I am sure they will figure out a way in future to be profitable if China takes over. That's just how a business evolves.

Yes it can survive easily. Been doing for much longer before China became legit boxoffice power. That was some 5 years ago, right? & with the studios only keep 20-30% of the boxoffice. That question is comical

Re: Could Hollywood survive without China box office?
For a franchise like MCU and specially Fast that 20-30% is a HUGE chunk so it's not completely irrelevant question some franchises will suffer if China grosses stop but there are MANY movies and franchise in Hollywood that don't depend on China (Star Wars being the biggest example) and still do really well.

Yah some franchise will suffer but Hollywood as a whole will survive & thrive without China’s 20%-30%

So how did it survive for decades upon decades without those recent Chinese financeers? It can survive just fine. Maybe the CEOs wouldn't be able to buy four yatchs instead of just one, but it can survive. Anyway, down with the evil Chinese government and shame on Hwood for selling out like this.

Re: Could Hollywood survive without China box office?
Where their biggest film of the year is Hi Mom which has made 824 million in February, and no one has ever even heard of it, the answer is yes, and they can survive without us. To deprive another country to films is wrong, but to cater to them is just lazy business. But that's the point to a big company, try and please your biggest customers, It's not anything new, we just have better coverage of the inner workings. The better solution would be to take the politics out of it, but that's not going to happen anytime soon.
