Post Memorial Day Weekend Predictions
We haven’t done these in a while, seems like the perfect time to start again! (Sorry if there’s already a thread, couldn’t find one)

Cruella- 23M 4-day

A Quiet Place 2- 45M 4-day

I think great reviews will propel AQP2 quite a bit and hopefully have some strong legs. I can’t really tell if Cruella has any hype but I hope it does well as it’s apparently really good

I feel like Cruella clears 30m. Marketing has been good and Emma Stone+Cruella is a strong star+concept.

Quiet Place will hit 50m.

A pretty important weekend.

I'm feeling good about both rn. Thinking Cruella does low 30s for 4-day and A Quiet Place does high 40s.

4-day

A Quiet Place - $35M
Cruella - $22M

Good numbers, but I don't think either of these movies are quite right for the current atmosphere. AQP is beloved, but its a little too close to reality right now to be pure escapism. And I've gone over why it was a questionable idea to make someone who skins dogs into a sympathetic feminist.

Fast and Furious will open to more than these two combined. Book it. Then, hopefully, for F10: The Past and the Furious, the gang can go back in time, stop covid and thus increase the grosses of every movie from the past year. :)

AQP should match Godzilla's OW and its not available on streaming so there will be some extra demand over OW. I see it doing $50m-$60m 4-day.

As for Cruella I see it doing less around $15m-$20m for 4-day given that it's available on streaming and Raya didn't open big because of this strategy (I understand that Raya was pushed heavily on D+ but I'm sure audience are aware of the release strategy by now).

Either way, looks like a solid weekend incoming.

Cruella has mixed reviews, seems it is another cookie cutter Disney live action film.

Indeed even the positive ones say that this has too much style over substance and storytelling.

73% after 110 reviews is not mixed. Zack Snyder's Justice League just got a 71% an it's considered the second coming to "some" The appeal seems more Dumbo than Aladdin though, that's for sure.

It was 63% when I read that.

As of now MC rating is 62 and in think that matches with reviews at RT even though the overall score for RT is higher.

Both of the films should do 40m+ 4-day but I also think the films lack a certain excitement that GvK had.

I think we really won't see normal things until end of June now when schools are all out.

I definitely feel more excitement for Quiet Place than GVK.

Canada is aggressively now vaccinating so I expect 10-20% increase in domestic box office as well toward the second half of the summer. Most of their theaters have been closed and are only starting to open back up.

RAYA is being coupled with CRUELLA in drive-ins, this should give RAYA a nice boost...
