I'm into this and still think it will do well since the movies with teams have all overperformed. However, I do think Hawkeye is the more anticipated project amongst all Marvel fans, and seeing Hailee Steinfeld take on the role would put more butts in the seats than Eternals, which actually looks like it'd make more sense as a tv show. |

I think the OW will still be good - $70m+ but legs will be questionable. So far this seems to be one of the lesser liked Marvel films. |

The performance of Eternals really makes the performance of Captain Marvel look impressive as hell. A 150m opening off just the marvel brand and momentum from the infinity saga. Could’ve easily made sub 200m total if it came out today. |

Could’ve easily made sub 200m total if it came out today. That was height of MCU frenzy and post credits teaser in IW built the hype for CM. Plus wasn't she part of Endgame promotions as well. Eternals had nothing in comparison. No tie up except some references to the Avengers and Thanos. They should have had Josh Brolin play Younger Thanos in this one. They are able to build hype for NWH using nostalgia for Tobey. I think that is going to make it frontloaded if movie is not received very well. Endgame was frontloaded even with crazy strong WOM. |

Eternals felt like a passion project blockbuster from Chloe Zhao with the Marvel label slapped on it. Which ... probably quadrupled the gross at least. So if you think about it that way it did very well. Just not all that great by Marvel standards and Eternals 2 will probably be a show on Disney Plus because of it. |

Definitely didn't make money The fact that Dune made the same $$$ with a lower budget  Marvel is entering its decline phase where not everything will automatically be a massive success. Of course Spider-Man is still keeping them afloat but that film tellingly was huge because of Tobey Maguire era Spider-Man nostalgia. I don't think Dr Strange's presence was the engine behind that $1.6 billion gross. |

I think Marvel will take note of that and do team-ups in almost every movie from now on. Even small roles like Ben Kingsley or Djimon Honsou seem to go a long way. Black Widow could have had Hawkeye, Eternals could have had Thanos, etc... |

I haven't looked into Guardians 3 much, but I could easily see it feature the Eternals, or the Eternals 2 may feature the Guardians. (They already defeated one Celestial in Guardians 2!) In fact, I think the new character introduced in the mid-credit scene of Eternals is involved with the Guardians as well, so a link may already be there. |

MCU is successful because the tone/style built up a brand, since Eternals was probably the first time they've taken in a risk in that area at least from Iron Man 2 on, it doesn't have the same effect. It didn't do that bad but there is probably opportunity cost compared to what the most successful version of Eternals could have been. |
