I’m assuming box office will be normal in November. Eternals trailer looks very Game of Thrones/Thor vibes. Can’t really tell what it’s about. Should be a lower grosser in the scheme of MCU films. Thinking 75 OW, 200 total.

I really liked the teaser and that it looks pretty different for an MCU film. Assuming things are ok and Black Widow/Shang Chi do well this will be big.

the trailer is so bland and boring. that said,under normal conditions this would do 350m+ DOM and $1B+ WW easily.

I don’t know the marketing really needs to step up. That’s what made Guardians explode, right now I’d put it in the Thor/Ca/ Antman adjusted range so more Dr. Strange size

Its still a teaser and I believe having Jolie is a big plus. They will surely put her in front of marketing eventually and then ofcourse the leading men from GoT will be marketed. They have quite a few movies to market this year so I am guessing we will see more marketing of each of the movies in theaters before other Marvel movies.

By the release times the buzz on this will pick up. This has more fantasy elements and better starpower and feels like the movie that will connect to bigger things. This will cross BW over OW.

Domestic holiday in its second week should help. I’m getting X-Men 1 vibes from the trailers. It looks smaller scale than the fx would suggest on the surface. I think Chloe will nail the cast dynamics. We’ll see about the action scenes.

Hope it does Shang-chi numbers at least. The better the MCU fares post pandemic boxoffice wise, the more likely we get a Secret Wars movie.

If the presales make up the same percent of the OW as Black widow, this will make 104m OW. If its presales make up the same percent as for Shang Chi, it will make 140m OW.

Doesn't mean this is doing 100m OW but the presales do seem impressive

Core audiences are more comfortable with presales now than before. Trick is convincing casual audiences to get off the fence for an unknown property. Shang Chi was marketed with a strong Iron Man tie in via the Ten Rings. Eternals I'm not sure, it doesn't look as much like a "hero" film in the way Shang Chi did. Will the muted Chloe Zhao aesthetic with more / older characters bring in teen boys compared with the martial arts action angle of Shang Chi?

Kumail has been a big press angle for this film, but clearly wasn't a draw for STUBER or MEN IN BLACK INTERNATIONAL despite being prominently featured in those trailers. BIG SICK was ages ago and LOVEBIRDS went streaming.

Angelina has been MIA for a while. Her and Salma are big stars who may speak to an older audience, but that's the exact audience that's just smart enough to stay home.

Angelina and Kit Harington are the only real stars in this cast

I said this before but here goes, the fantasy elements and the sense of connection to MCU is much bigger in Eternals with connections to Guardians and multiple other movies of past MCU that will drive fans into movie theaters.

it will open big. MCU has a strong core fanbase and this has star power. That said the characters are unknown. Presales OD was bigger than BW comfortably but its trending down relative to BW. Let us see where things are during release week. For now I would say 12m previews and 90m OW and about 250m finish.
