Great for MK. Are we getting cinemascore or any other way to gauge WoM on MK. I feel we might see first relatively frontloaded movie after pandemic.

B+, slightly worse than the first film's A- but much better than Annihilation's C+. I'm thinking similar legs to WW84? Maybe a little weaker since it'll get pushed out of theaters a little more quickly with the incoming summer movie season.

WW1984 legs sound about right for around 60m total for MK. Great opening. WB really saved US theaters lol

GvK looks like it may barely miss 100m but WB may push it there.

First post updated with Top Six - can't believe they're only expecting a $3.5m Sunday for DS...

Biggest weekend since March 6-8, 2020.

B+ is surprisingly very good for it but it could also be because of fans rushing theaters. Agree on WW84 comparison but yeah with slightly worse holding power with more movies in theaters coming soon.

DS weekend estimate hopefully increases for it to reach $20m.

Great numbers for MK and DS. I wasn't a fan of MK at all, but seeing this along with DS and GVK doing so well is definitely a positive sign regarding the state of BO. If it gets to a $50-$60M total than that would be pretty impressive and probably not that far off its actual gross if there wasn't a pandemic. I feel like it could have easily opened over $30M in normal times, but the frontloading would have still been the same and now it might have better legs because of that.

The Croods FINALLY slips out of the top 10 after 21 weekends. It may have been once in a lifetime circumstances but that was still some amazing staying power.

The entire top 5 has a total of over $10 M. :whaa: Finally got there!

3 of the top 4 could get to $45 m+.

If actuals come in a bit higher is DS the 2nd biggest opening for a foreign film after the first Pokémon movie? Not counting British co-productions, I guess.

Post subject:  Re: Weekend Estimates

Final numbers should be more like $23m/$21m for the two openers...

MK's number nearly identical to 95's opening. Wow.

Post subject:  Re: Weekend Estimates

Demon Slayer's number is really incredible. Hope more anime releases can have big runs in the future.

Post subject:  Re: Weekend Estimates

13k PTA for Demon Slayer is insane given the restrictions theaters still have.

So happy they went up with actuals. Terrific openings.

Post subject:  Re: Weekend Estimates

$13k PTA is huge in these times. Imagine if we can get movies with bigger theater count and build enough momentum there is easily a $100m opener waiting to explode.

Most of Canada's theaters are still closed and Demon Slayer would have overindexed there. Feel like DS could have done $25M+ if Canada's Covid recovery were at pace with the US.

Don't think Funimation has resources to do daily tracking but MK numbers should have come out.
