I miss those early Friday projections. I'm excited to see GvK's Friday number with additional theaters. I hope it clears $10m or more

11.6m Friday. 45m 5-Day should be locked up. Not sure how high it’ll go in the end but 80m seems doable.

GvK will legit go down as the film that gave theatrical distribution hope again. Everything is different now. We are on the road to normalcy.

That's another great number. Agreed with Magnus, GvK is definitely bringing hopes back and it's so cool to see those numbers again after so long. I hope it also clears $100m domestic total. WB took WW84 out of streaming and it has been doing well after that.

I assume some calendar shuffling will happen soon after this weekend.

Lol Disney shouldn't have moved Black Widow. But I guess it'll open bigger in July.

It's great but also a shame since it does seem like sth that may have flirted with $1B under normal conditions.

The boxoffice is back on the menu boys!

Not sure that makes sense in this context but I love using the LOTR quote.

When all is said and done, GvK could be viewed as the true Tenet.

The film that revitalized the Boxoffice.

I don’t know if it revitalized it, but it’s a reminder that streaming was merely a temporary replacement, not the solution. Trolls ironically fucked with a lot things, because it did so well for Universal that it definitely raised the grey area a bit. And Tenet always seemed like an odd choice for the poster boy for a return to norm. And poor Bond, I wonder if they’ll start planning the next one without Craig.

Fair points. As to the gray area, I can see more infighting between the streaming and film divisions of the major studios. The power balance has shifted a bit.

in Tenets and WW84 defense, the state of the country in today is way different than when they were released.

Vaccine rollout + COVID exhaustion + LA/NY theaters open I think are three big macro factors. It's not completely inconceivable that WW84 could have done even more than GvK if it was released in this spot or for Tenet to have done 40m 5-day.

But I think GvK was in the end the right type of film for this moment so perhaps the other films wouldn't have done as well. It's a highly visible IP that got good reviews and just seemed to be "silly but fun" which is what a lot of people are looking for.

GvK is also not a sequel or a series mindbending original. Plus it brings something new on the table (Live action fight between titans) while still being fun and something that many would choose to watch in theaters. I am absolutely sure Tenet would have done lesser but also WW84 with the streaming strategy might not have done as big numbers though it would have been very close to it.

I’m curious as to what kind of legs this could have. Surely it would have struggled to get to a 2.0 multiplier in normal times, probably even with good WOM. (Well, I guess not with the Wed opening.) With the limited seating and more people getting vaccinated each day, we could see some great legs. But the type of movie is frontloaded in nature and also available on streaming so idk if that will balance it out.

legs will be very TBD. I think it'll break 90m but not sure about 100m

What's the reason behind WB still not releasing dailies?

Yeah seems silly not to do dailies when it's probably doing good weekday #s.

Interesting new spin opp from WB (and likely other studios) moving forward. We can call it the Tenet strategy.

Film meets or exceeds expectations in second weekend: Great weekend! Great dailies over the past week!

Film misses expectations in second weekend: Weekend + dailies barely dipped from last weekend.

Film really misses expectations: Look how well it did on POV in Canada! :shades:

Film completely flops: Snyder cut coming!

And if any film screens BIG SCREEN - its the ultimate monster mash-up.
