Friday #s (welp)
Raya and the Last Dragon - 2.5m Chaos Walking - 1.3m
... well that's disappointing. This is so so so much better than Tom and Jerry ugh
Think not getting Cinemark is the difference for not getting to 10m for Raya. Doubt any theater is not gonna play Black Widow though. They shouldn't move it.

Re: Friday #s (welp)
Ouch. That's really bad. I knew it was going to be less appealing to audiences than Tom & Jerry but still didn't think it would do this bad.

Damn I saw $8M and thought that was for Friday only. Guess people aren’t willing to risk their children’s safety unless nostalgia is involved.
The movie is really great so hopefully it got some good numbers on Disney Plus.
Black Widow moves to late Summer in 5, 4 , 3 , 2 -

Re: Friday #s (welp)
Sucks for Raya becaue it's actually a good movie unlike Tom and Jerry, but I had a feeling it wasn't going to out open Tom and Jerry by much even if it did.
It just didn't have the same appeal as Tom and Jerry did on top of it being a original/unknown property which is almost always a gamble these days unfortuntely.

It will at least probably have really good staying power.

The important number is how much it made in premiere pass sales on D+

I think Godzilla vs. Kong might end up the biggest pandemic opener so far. I feel like a lot of people will want to see it on the big screen rather than at home.

Disappointing for Raya. I wouldn't attempt to rent it on D+ right now with all the server problems they're having. The app has been a disaster on all my devices for days.

Black Widow moves to late Summer in 5, 4 , 3 , 2 - Their children’s’ safety? The parents would be far more at risk.

Re: Friday #s (welp)
Plus they didn't care about their kids with Croods and Tom & Jerry so you can't really blame that.

Re: Friday #s (welp)
That's surprisingly bad number for Raya but I believe Disney not pushing it in enough theaters is the reason rather than appeal. It really feels that Disney just wants to earn more money with D+ rather than going to theaters and they have found the loophole to avoid any controversy (yet again). D+ having much bigger market penetration than HBO MAX also could be the biggest reason for this.

We are SO close to these being real numbers. Only a matter of time!

So the three wide openers combined did less than the sole opener last weekend... https://www.the-numbers.com/weekend-box-office-chart

Big fall for Tom and Jerry too. Looks like last weekend was just an outlier.

Re: Friday #s (welp)
With Raya opening it was expected for other family movies falling down harder but they can see an increase next weekend. Croods is holding really really well still.
