So it'll get the 2nd best pandemic opening after WW1984. Wow.

This makes me think Raya could possibly beat WW with NY theaters opening next Friday. Should be interesting.

I think once the vaccine is widely available and day and date pvod releases stop, film going will explode. People are so sick of not being able to go out like they once did.

There’s a lot of irresponsible parents out there who are desperate for any reason to not have to spend time at home with their children. Raya will probably make $20M+.

A lot of Raya showings sold out around me. Strong PTA incoming.

Obviously it was a mistake to target the “tough guy” audience for the first few months of The Return when family pictures have been doing so much better. Can’t really fault the studios for not knowing that though. The performances of T/J and Raya should keep Black Widow off Disney+ for at least a month or two.

Looks like the HBO Max decision was a good idea. So Tom and Jerry would've done like 30m under normal circumstances? Wow. Wonder if we'll get a subscriber report before Snyder Cut/GvK

I'll probably check out Raya when it comes out, but the ads and TV spots have shown SO much that I'm tempted to just wait to buy it. Seems like there are more than a dozen different ones airing, ranging from short 5/10-second spots to 30-60-second previews and such, each with exclusive scenes. Maybe it's just the channels I have on, but it's easily one of the most advertised films I can remember.

Will definitely go see Godzilla vs. Kong.

Suprisingly strong start for Tom & Jerry and maybe a sign of people willing to return to theatres eventually afterall. It's just too bad its for a crappy movie, but some progress is better than none at all.

I'll probably fork over the $30 for Raya, damn Disney. Theaters aren't opening for at least another 3 weeks here and tbh drive ins just aren't the same.

I think vaccination population should be good by May so Black Widow could do something respectable.

Wasn't $4m the mark most movies opened during the pandemic? I'm guessing you are all excited because this opened with major theater restrictions?

4m Friday. It's estimated to do 12mish for the weekend.

Alright but it could still be frontloaded like WW84.

A 12m opening for a 4m opening day family film is frontloaded.....

We'll see that's the reason I gave example of WW84. With movies releasing on VOD there could just be the initial rush of fans to see it along/before the others which is why Saturday and Sunday might not be as big.

$13.7m for Tom and Jerry.

Lol if Tom and Jerry ends up grossing more than Tenet. Next weekend should be interesting.

$13.7m is awesome number. I hope we get a better sequel /reboot than this one.

This is fantastic news!

It also feels funny because the film to make the breakthrough was a little unexpected or nothing special - kind of like when Lost in Space unseated Titanic.

It's 2021 and they're still trying to make Chloe Grace Moretz happen? It was over 5 years ago (as a film star, she could do fine on a streaming service show)

She is cheap, pretty looking actress that is still known. I highly doubt they would have gotten any good actress with this script.

Post subject:  Re: Friday Estimates

I think Moretz is still looking for some sort of mainstream success, especially after that Louis CK film

Wtf lol

If it goes over 4x multiplier it'll be the biggest pandemic movie unless Raya gets to 60m.
