Some say Corona has changed everything, but who knows really... We have to be thankful that Covid-19 happened in the "off-year" 2020 instead of 2019 when AVENGERS - ENDGAME crushed all existing opening records... So here's the basic question - how long will the opening record ($357m weekend / $474m week) last? |

Sadly a better question is how long before any movie makes more total than Endgame made in one day? |

It would have been hard in regular circumstances to break this record but now it would be even more difficult. I'll go with 15+ years. |

Till when Avatar 1 has a re-release. Avatar 2 has little chance with ERs we have today. |

If the next Avengers Battle Royale can bring in Hugh Jackman, Tony Stark, Deadpool, other X-men, and Spider-man, that could do it. Other than that, something always comes along every 5-10 years. |

All good points above. China, inflation and something new could do it as well. Just imagine something like Demon Slayer in Japan will eventually come back for domestic market. |

Endgame’s opening and Force Awakens total will never be beaten. Worldwide records are another story. |

350 mil was years ahead of time. It would be like Revenge of the Sith opening was 200 million which would have taken a decade to beat. Add in streaming and it could be as solid 10 years at least before Endgame is caught by inflation. |

The record is so monstrous that I seriously doubt it will be beaten. At least not without ridiculous inflation. Opening Weekends just wont be the same anymore. |

I remember thinking TFA's record would hold forever lol I think by the end of the year if the pandemic is kaput (god please) we'll have a better idea of how box office is. |

TFA's increase was "usual" increase in comparison to previous record increasing about 18%. IW first broke that similar to JW in 2015 by less than 5% and then EG smashed it to pieces (increasing almost 40%). The record for TFA in regular market was bound to be broken and surpassed but EG would have held the record for 10+ years even with inflation. Now in this market it might not happen during our lifetimes. Though a lesson from Demon Slayer's run in Japan says that if people are hungry for theatrical experience and a movie comes along generating enough interest a humongous run is possible and due soon. |

Agreed. We're in the middle of the pandemic still and our mindsets are shaped by it. It probably won't be until summer 2022 until we'll get a sense of the long term prospects for the theatrical boxoffice. |

So after thinking about it, the one way I could see both records falling is if Marvel goes really nuts with the multiverse and we get Avengers v Star Wars. That would get the butts into the seats plague or no plague. |

ENDGAME shattered the record so spectacularly, and now with this shift in the market due to COVID... I think it's genuinely possible that it's never beaten. |
