:funny: Its not but I just want you to think that there is a lot you are putting on Nolan. Most of us here do not like the idea of WB doing this but things are as they are and there is a possibility that WB is suffering financially which none of us think about. They haven't have HUGE hits like Disney recently and having more duds vs hits just does not cut it anymore.

Also as redfirebird2008 mentioned that COVID might just be speeding up the eventual un-popularity of theaters (even though I feel it never can be entirely killed).

The mistake you’re both making is thinking that WB has the final say in this matter. AT&T does not give a fuck about movie theaters. They’re in a position where Warner Brothers make movies for HBO that are watched using AT&T Uverse internet. They own the production, the distribution and the technology required to make it all happen. Why would they give that up just to keep AMC from going bankrupt?

The theatrical exhibition will never die. It's going to rebound like gangbusters in 2022.

It will come back but it bought never be the same. The records held by Endgame might not break for a very very long time.

Cameron is gonna be so pissed if Avatar 2 goes direct to streaming. :funny:

But you know, how about you take less than 13 years to make a new movie and then this wouldn’t be an issue.

Not a chance in hell. By Dec 2022 people will be going back to theaters like normal.

Fool me once (Titanic), shame on you; fool me twice (Avatar), shame on me;
fool me thrice (Avatar 2), kill yoself!

the MCU and Avatar 2 are probably the two best hopes of saving the theatrical system we're used to. nothing else will.

Agreed MCU and Avatar are the biggest things. I am betting Avatar will be the movie that will benefit the most like DS is enjoying post-COVID run in Japan.

Was expecting more bold moves from Disney but according to Variety Raya is still gonna have that $30 price tag for Premiere Access lol.

Nolan and Villenueve are absolutely furious. This isn't going to last. The talent is going to boycott.

Yes another version (2nd in 10 years) of Batman with a possibly 3rd (or 4th? I lost count) Joker in 5 years from a recovering brand (DCEU) is definitely the movie than the long running MCU franchise (that is currently the second biggest domestic and biggest WW movie) or the sequel to a worldwide phenomenon made by a visionary director that made grandma's enjoy theatrical experience.

IF it would go to this in the U.S., there needs to be a universal streaming service. I'm not paying $50+ a month (and any extra "premium fees") that'd be required to watch various movies across the many streaming platforms.

I'd rather just wait and buy films otherwise.

Why sign up at all when you can literally google "[movie title] watch 1080p" and with five minutes of googling see anything for free. And it'll all be up in glorious HD the second it hits Netflix, Disney+, etc etc.

WB basically had to do this after their PATHETIC performance in the rescheduling war. They fucked up their 2021 release scheduling so badly, this may just be cover to avoid having that will be voided a series of flops / disappointments.

WB is rightfully getting absolutely slammed for this move. To the point where it may spook other distributors.

This has nothing to do with rescheduling.

It's about AT&T, which now owns Warner Bros via their acquisition of Time Warner. They are trying to drive subscribers to their HBO Max service in order to please Wall Street investors.

Cuz that’s unethical.

Studio yearly winners (as of now):
Looks like it will be Sony for the win followed by Universal then Disney/Fox. Disney's streak is over.
