Two decades later and this truly has a chance to redeem the franchise. Let's assume a 2021 release date - could be looking at some serious $$$ if done right ($450m/$1.3B)

I used to be a fan of The Matrix. But the film did not grow on me on re-watch. A new Matrix entry will be great because the idea can be explored with more sophisticated visualization and philosophical depth.

If it's good this could be huuuuge.

How the hell are they going to bring back Trinity though? Neo I get because the machines kinda carried him off in the last one and he had a weird death in the Matrix so they could say his mind was uploaded to the system or whatever. But Trinity was impaled and left for dead.

I always thought a prequel would be awesome. when they "give birth" to the matrix or however Morpheus says it.

looks this weekend the first film is being re-released. good amount of tickets sold so far at my theater . :)

The Force Awakens didn’t end up being affected by the prequels, and in this case even more time has past. Plus, technology is only making this seem more relevant.

I don’t think it will seem dated stylistically. The idea of the matrix creates a lot of flexibility in terms of what can be put on screen. The limits of what can be seen in the matrix are pretty much the limits of imagination. And modern technology only gives the filmmakers more options.

I think it will still look very cool whenever it's released. The only film that tried to do the whole bending physics thing recently was Inception and that had very, very basic visuals compared to the Matrix, although I guess that's because Christopher Nolan has a very limited visual imagination.

It reminds me of other reboots or sequels no one asked for. Reloaded and Revolutions had bad reception. This just reads as desperate to me.

Eh I can't say I really care about a Matrix 4, especially after how off the rails the franchise went after the first movie, but with Keanu's new found popularity I'm sure people will show up, but how many I have no idea. I do think John Wick: Chapter 4 has way more potential though, and no way are both movies opening on the same day.
