I assume Black Panther 2 will be the first MCU solo film since Iron Man 2 to decrease in gross from its predecessor. It will be impossible to beat the novelty and replicate the hype. I'm thinking a $160-170 million opening and a $430-450 million total. |

The Avengers/Age of Ultron is a very apt comparison since I assume Black Panther will end up pulling similar numbers and in both cases the novelty will have worn off. Especially with Black Panther appearing in at least two more films in the meantime. |

I think we'll know better after "Coming 2 America" run. If it's an event film like BP then the sky is the limit! Hell I wonder what a Wakanda/Zamunda cross over movie would do? |

But of course unforseeable factors come into play. No one in their right mind would have predicted $300+ million for Thor 3 right after Thor: The Dark World came out. Or $400+ million vor Captain America 3 after The Winter Soldier. This thread is just for some pondering and discussion of the potential. |

I had the same thought as well. Makes sense. Why mess with a release date that works (you hear that May Star Wars movies?) I’d even move it up to 2/5. Maximize as many weekends in black history month. |

Daniel Kaluuya won't be in the sequel either. That's going to hurt it, imo. With it being so secretive it feels like they're making a bare bones Black Panther sequel, sort of like a "Black Panther: Other Stories From Wakanda". |

Hard to say until we see a trailer. The loss of Chadwick could go either way pending how they use his loss in the marketing. The addition of Namor will likely help though. At the moment I see a small 8-10% dip which would still have it make $610-640m (but perhaps fall short of TG Maverick) |

While a trailer would be nice, I like the coy marketing strategy for this. Both Dr Strange and Thor promised more than they delivered (neither was an actual team-up movie), which I think is the main reason their legs were so poor. No Way Home obviously did not promise anything other than a couple doctors and then way overdelivered with beloved characters. I know Namor and Killmonger aren't at that level, but holding them back from the trailers would be smart in my opinion. Just give us a general sense of what Wakanda is going to look like without T'challa and people will turn up. |

Great initial teaser. I don't think they could do any better than that. Not sure how well it does as it's only a teaser, but it looks epic. I'm interested in how this plays with and complements and affects The Woman King and Avatar: The Way of Water as that teaser gave me vibes of both of those films. |

It's the best teaser I've seen all year. It's a sequel to one of the top 5 films of all time. Fun that we're getting two of those within 5 weeks of each other. I think this has a dark horse chance to beat NWH. Will join TGM to be the zeitgeist film that pulls all quadrants. |

Teaser should have shown the new Black Panther. Felt a bit empty. Should do well. Marvel is set through the end of Phase 6 with the announcements today. Can't imagine anything other than maybe Blade bombing. Avengers 5&6 will be HUGE, as will Fantastic 4. |

Feeling this will get a lot of love at the Oscars too. Academy wants to turn around ratings and if it delivers they're also acknowledging the profound impact BP has had in pop culture. |

The Alright mash up was cool, I still feel like it needs a bit more male power though to reach the type of numbers of last time Phase 5 looks ok for Marvel like 4, but F4 and Avengers 5 and 6 is a great start to Phase 6 |

this movie should have opened February 2020, its a gigantic fuck up that they didn't straight up fast track this. Ledger's Joker and Boseman's Black Panther are the 2 biggest pop culture break outs of the 2000s/2010s and neither got a sequel. |
