None of the new movies are showing up on the moviefone Top 5, none of them are in the Yahoo buzzmeter (although all of this week's new DVD's are!)...and in the boxofficemojo polls, every single new movie's top placement when asked "When will you see this movie?" is "Never".

Kind of makes me a bit nervous to think that any of these movies can make over $20 million..or over $10 million in some cases.

Is demand for Star Wars that high that everyone spent their money on advance tickets and don't want to see any other summer movie before they see Star Wars? (I think that has a 78% for opening weekend/day when asked when you'll be seeing it.)

But man...I really hope that once everyone gets that out of their system, they'll go back to seeing other movies. I mean, besides Unleashed, the offerings this week are crap anyway...but this is going to be a really bad summer if this trend continues past Star Wars.

Hmm.....i think MONSTER IN LAW and KICKING AND SCREAMING should do alright, but MINDHUNTERS and UNLEASHED seem like different options...

Mindhunters is a good movie :)

It'll still make no more than $5 million overall probably.

That aside, I don't think that Kicking and Screaming is the kind of a movie that would show up on Moviefone early. The Pacifier didn't. Same for the Yahoo buzzmeter.

I think this weekend looks weak, and I have always thought that. Kicking and Screaming looks like a film that should do high teens, and MIL should do about the same. Jet' film might do about 8 mill and Mindhunters will be DOA. The real fireworks begins on Thursday at the stroke of midnight on teh 19th.

I assume by "good" you mean like the opposite of "bad" (which is often said when something is good)...because I saw Mindhunters and I thought it was "AWFUL" (the standard Webster's definition)

Total.

Are you sure about that? You may be right since I can't remember that far back but it seemed like any movie that made over $25 million has been in the moviefone Top 5 at least the day before. In the last few weeks, it's just been Star War Star Wars Star Wars sitting at the top.

The Pacifier is an exception, it wasn't on Moviefone until late Thursday or even later. I am pretty sure about that.

I saw Mindhunters and it made my Top 10 of 2004, out of around 80 2004-movies I have seen.

MINDHUNTERS is a 2005 movie  I'm starting to have a bad feeling. Nobody is talking about ANY of the movies released this week in school or anything. I hope that we have a hit this week though, if any of them are, I'd expect MONSTER IN LAW. God, STAR WARS is going to be so huge ...

Mindhunters came out in 2004 and was supp to be released in North America at the same time. I remember seeing the trailer for this last year, then it was delayed.

It's been delayed for a long time, glad it's finally being released.

Yes.. that's exactly what it is.. A bunch of folks purchased their EPISODE III tickets well ahead of time(myself included for Friday and Saturday) and don't give a fuck what's playing or coming out this weekend.. This weekends box office will be the pits.. Next weekend however will be $$$$$$$ and it'll all go in Lucas's pocket..

I actually agree with BKB. I think everyone is just waiting for SW to hit. These films are just fillers and although the comparrison between MIL and Nottinghill was made at guru, I don't think they are one in the same. Roberts was at the apex of her popularity then and JLO is just the opposite now.

That was the initial plan but my weekend Security Guy quit on me so I've been working every day til the slot is filled.. Alot of overtime and very little rest, so I had to sacrifice 2 of those days and chose Friday and Saturday since my Temp crew will be trained by then so I can take those nights off..

That's a ridiculous comparison they made.

Not only does your Roberts statement ring true, but MIL isn't even a romantic comedy, it's a high concept comedy. There's little romance in it.

Do I have a bad feeling about this weekend? Hell Yes.

I'm pretty sure the sum of the top ten movies will be a good 30% below the usual (well, maybe only 20% from last week, which was also atrocious), and no, I don't expect any movie to break 20 million.

I'd be really surprised if any movie makes over 20 million this weekend. There's little buzz about any of them. Around me the only buzz I've heard is for Mindhunters. I think it could do ok compared to how everyone else is predicting it.

I think Kicking and Screaming is going to surprise alot of you. There are absolutely no kids movies out there, this is going to go over 20 million.

I have a bad feeling about this weekend as well. Pacifier only showed up at Moviefone Thursday afternoon and was No. 3 until Friday but still beat Be Cool easily, so as Lecter said, Kicking & Screaming still needs to be observed, although its other signs are weaker than what Pacifier had. However, I'd expect Monster-in-Law to appear by now if it is going to break 20M. So currently, I don't see that happening.

I'm still not seeing any TV ads for Monster-in-Law. I'm seeing plenty for Kicking & Screaming, and for Madagascar.

I really don't see how MIL is going to break through, because I don't really think there's much awareness out there about it. And I also have to agree that the movie going audience is mostly looking past this weekend and waiting for May 19. (As, I'm sure, are the theater chains. [-o< )

Monster-in-Law must have just showed up on the chart, but it's #5 right now.

None of the others are on the list yet.

Well in my area there is a ton of buzz for Madagacar, but none at all for Kicking & Screaming. (many people haven't heard about it!!)

Well, I wouldn't really expect movies like Monster-in-Law and Kicking and Screaming to be stirring up a lot of buzz with the online community. Those aren't anticipated movies.

Well after the last couple of lackluster weeks, i'd say both movies can easily underperform.
