I think both XXX 2 and Hitchhiker's Guide should do quite well. Hitchhicker's Guide has the kids/family film appeal, which is something needed in a nearly empty kids film market. The commercials also rock. And XXX 2 looks to have some good action, plus it has the urban film appeal. I think both films will pull through to have a good weekend.
PEACE, Mike

xXx 2 - 51m
Hitchhiker's - 31m
Interpreter - -37%
Amityville - -51.5% (Think Sin City, or Kill Bill Vol. 1, a relatively good drop means it probably won't improve in the third week)
Kung Fu Hustle - -45% (Tough one)
A Lot Like Love - -43%
King's Ransom - -68% (Although the theaters will keep it, many will have only one showtime a day.)

Do you guys really think that Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy can beat XXX: State of the Union? I seriously doubt it.
XXX: State of the Union: $45 million
Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy: $23 million

Hitchhiker's TV spots have really disappointed me. They make the movie look like Thunderbirds and a stupid action movie. But on the kid networks, advertising is aimed directly torward them which is good.

We are having midnight shows Thursday night for both Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and XXX2.
These are the first midnight shows we've had since ROTK

See, that's what kills me. I have barely seen any ads for The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, so I'm trying to figure out how much of it is the stupid action ads and how much is the genius in that one trailer, because if the campaign was focused in one direction more then the other I think it'd make the difference between a low 20 million opening and a high 30s one.

Anyone who's predicting it to do more then xXx is setting themselves up for a disappointment, it's not gonna do as bad as say Speed 2, which was another action flick that didnt have one of its leads come back for a sequel, but it wont make 40m+. People can come up with things like, its the beginning of the summer movie season or things of that matter, but if thats the case lets give every movie thats going wide from hear on a prediction of over 40m
