Well, Kung-Fu Hustle didn't get April's overall PTA record, but still far ahead of all the non-IMAX releases.

THE RING TWO'S worldwide total rises to $126.5 as it takes Number 1 internationally for the Second Week Running.

Sahara was down quite a bit aswell.

The studio would also be wise to release the DVD in October to cash in on playoff fever.

Lots of Yankee fans may have been turned off by a movie about the Boston Redsox. That was a bitter pill to swallow last fall, and there are lots of Yankee fans, and not just in New York.

It's also possible the *three* sneak previews it had last weekend may have hurt it this weekend.

I mean, I can understand one sneak preview (maybe two), but three is overkill.

Considering I already saw it, this might've shaved a good $1-2M off its gross.

This is the second time the sneak previews have decived us.

That's very possible, too. Hopefully, WOM will help it out some, because it is really good. I think it will do well on home video with rentals and sales , in any case, but I do wish more good movies like this wouldn't be passed over by the masses when they are at theaters, while plenty of garbage rakes it in. That's just telling the studios that quality isn't a priority.

On another note, Million Dollar Baby will need to sweat out quite a few more weeks to get to 100M after the rather large drop of 52.1%. I still think it'll barely squeeze through simply because it's just too close, and the studio will make sure it gets there, kind of similar to Shakespear in Love.

Why the hell dont they add the sneaks to the films opening weekend? They do that over here . . . . . . .

At least great movies like The Pacifier didn't have any problems making that much at the box office.

Yeah, I'm glad that it did better then expected, and I think good WOM will once again prove those who want it to fail wrong.

I think its going to have great wom, and will only drop 40% next weekend, which is pretty good considering. This one is going to have long legs, especially when all the big action movies come out in two weeks, it'll be the big counter-programming movie for anyone not looking to see bats, jedis, or galaxy hitchhikers.

Sahara definitely did surprise me. I didn't really expect over $15M after last week.

Fever Pitch, on the other hand, didn't gross nearly as much as I thought it would. Another miss for the Farrelly Bros.

but it's still an awesome PTS though. i'm glad to see it doing really well.

See, I really think that they're trying too hard to get away from gross out comedies into softer nice films, but that's what people really want to see from them more then anything, even if it isn't nessecarily better. A good mix between the two might be best for there next project like Something About Mary or Shallow Hal. They just don't want it to be too offensive of subject matter, I don't think anyone would've felt right seeing a movie about Siamese twin jokes.

Dolce, I can't describe to ya how happy I am Hustle is suceeding. Not only have I been talking about it for months, but I've been personally adverteising how great it is ever since I saw it almost two months ago at the Portland International Film Festival. And it's always great to see something no one had heard of but you hit it big (that's what happened for me with Owen Wilson, Jamie Foxx, Adrien Brody and Vin Diesel actor wise, F. Gary Gray, Stephen Sommers and Gore Verbinski director wise).

I think Kung Fu Hustle is to Moviedude what Bad Education and Moolaade were to me last year. :razz:

Oh scratch that, the fact that you and bell have both seen kung fu hustle already means this isn't another moolaade case. i knew there was a reason i always did so poorly on the verbal comparison part on the s.a.t.s and g.r.e.s.

38,000 is really good though. We'll have to see how it holds up outside of NY and LA. Its definately got an interesting sense of timing and humor, so I don't know if its going to go over so well everywhere. I think a good benchmark is going to be how it gets picked up in philly, atlanta, and chicago. I've already ixnayed all of Cali major cities and NYC. For some reason i don't consider them representative of the tastes of the market when it comes to martial arts fare.
