Wasn't there a thread somewhere which asked when will we have the first $100m opening day? It would be fun to re-read the predictions...

Actually I think the same number of tickets sold as for New Moon with 3-D, Imax and inflation will be close to 95 mln in gross.

 This is too surreal. It's already beaten The Dark Knight's OD.

If it gets a $100m OD (I can't believe we're even discussing the possibility), what's the likelihood of a $200m OW? With this much demand, some business has to get pushed to the next couple days.

8 more hours if you're including the West Coast, and factor in that there might be a bump in gross during the evening for both the East Coast, the Midwest and the West Coast...

No way does this get under 100 million at this rate. WB will fudge the numbers if it gets within striking distance of 100 million

Think it may be more than 1 hour. But either way, the rate is pretty astonishing.

One hour between the tweets. And the article now states

"As of 1 p.m. Pacific time Friday, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" had already collected $24 million in dayside domestic reciepts (including pre-sales), running briskly ahead of three-day box office champ "The Dark Knight," which had collected $12.4 million at that same point in 2008."

Darling Nikki:

Sources tell me that Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows – Part 2 is already cruising passed $80M for the day (including that $43.5M from midnight showings.

(Is this correct English?)

Hmm, actually the Variety article says $24m by 1pm PST, not the 4pm time when the tweet was posted. So we still got half of a day to go, my goodness.

This is setting a new largest single-day box office record in motion picture history. (Previous largest day was Twilight Saga: New Moon at $72M.) Today Movietickets.com is reporting that Part 2 also broke ticket sales records yesterday becoming the new #1 online ticket pre-seller of all time by surging past New Moon. That's a new global cume of $162.5M.

If it's already at 80 million then it's not a question of whether it will get to 100 million but how much more than 100 million it can make. it still has Friday night for the East Coast and practically the entire day left for the West Coast. Could it get to the HP7 3 day total in one day?

I think Nikki's number was a projection, not how much it has already gotten. Variety's number is the one to trust.

the films sellouts are massive and add in the fact the film is on the third highest screen count ever.

So if it selling out a lot it is likley full on other screens which its doing crazy on the other screens.

It's odd wording for sure, but if it was at $67.5m at 1pm, over $80 at 4pm isn't totally impossible...

Her post says "is already cruising passed $80M for the day" which makes it seem like its already made that much for the day
