The Official Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy Tracking Thread
Im going to track this film when it comes out
This is not a prediction thread so please dont post and pre-release predictions in here
here is MG Caseys prediction thread.
http://worldofkj.com/forum/viewtopic.ph ... ide+galaxy
All info needed on the film is in that thread but i will end up posting most of it in here later.
My curent prediction is 22m/132m but that will soon be increased, and I advise everyone to check out the awesome new trailer, it ROCKS!
And may the tracking commence on April 29 2005

awg, I said no predictions. I cant let you post it in here do to this being a tracking thread. It would be unfare to MG Casey and it would not suport what a tracking threads purpose is.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is off to a great start. I expect around $70-75 million total.

It's going to easily pass my $17m opening prediction, and deserves every cent it gets.
I'm not sure how it'll pan out from here - the word of mouth could be good because it's funny or it could be bad if it's too weird for most audiences. I'm leaning closer to the former than the latter.
Looking forward to the thread, BJ. You did a great job with the Sin City tracking. Any films you have in mind as a means of comparison for Hitchhiker's?

Nope Every similar film I have looked at has eather floped hard or become a film with a multiplyer will over 5.0 so Im going to have to wati untill wknd 3 or 4 befoe I can start tracking it against other films that are similar to its genre, awell Im still going to track the film anyway.
If anyone has some good comparisons that were of the same or similar genre that would be great

Hmmmm, lets see, kooky space movie based off of an eccentric British radio series with a massive cult book fan base? Nope, no comparisons coming to mind.
I guess as far as space comedies though, you could do Galaxy Quest and Spaceballs.

I cant use galaxy quest because its legs were totaly awesome, and I cant us spaceballs because it came out in the 80s.

63% is awful. Have to wait and see the international tally before we can say one way or the other on this.
Maybe WOM was worse than anticipated?

I guess so. I thought just people here were dissapointed, but I guess most fans did find this movie dissapointing.

There were not enough fans to begin with. The casual moviegoers totally ignored this crapfest.

I loved the movie... But it really dropped. Hard. I guess you could compare it with Sky Captain? Another movie I loved and did bad business.

A bit worse then I expected, I think it will become the first ever 20m opener to fall short of 50m.
