Post The definitive Midnight/Preview numbers thread

That just puts Hangover's numbers in perspective. Wow, more than Spider-Man 3 and POTC2.

2009 really was the turning point for midnight showings, and this year looks like a complete repeat of it.

Added The Hangover's $1 million midnight number (Which Brandon somehow has) and notfabio's Alice in Wonderland guesstimate, a movie that for some reason doesn't have an official number (Despite clearly doing gangbusters).

Awesome thread. Here is one not included:

Indy 4 scored an estimated $4.5 million in midnight shows in the U.S.

About that Alice in Wonderland estimate though. It looks too high because it was reported On Stranger Tides had better midnights. Maybe 3.5-4.5 million would be a better estimate.

In the U.S., "On Stranger Tides" earned $4.7 million in Thursday midnight runs from 2,210 theaters.

This gives Sith's midnight total as an exact $16,912,367. :thumbsup:

Edit: Also, this http://www.boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=2601&p=.htm says Transformers 2 scored $16.8 million due to the infamous Puerto Rico incident.

How much will the last Harry Potter get.

And what about the final Breaking Dawn film? Could it be the first movie ever to make more during midights than during normal day shows opening day?

I'm thinking $33 million for Harry Potter, $30 million for Breaking Dawn I and $37 million for Breaking Dawn II.

TDKR has a shot at $40 million.

I think based on the pattern BD1 will have higher midnights than Eclipse. BD2 will further enhance it. TDKR midnights would be interesting. But it would be hard to beat the twihards.

Aww just realized that the midnight record is 30m+ somehow I thought it was $37m....with this I don't see Potter doing more than $35m midnights (max), I agree with Lecter on $33m.

Post Re: The definitive Midnight numbers thread
I wonder if Breaking Dawn (either parts) will be able to reclaim the record for midnight. that is assuming 7.2 gets it (which i'm just about positive it will).

Thanks guys. :) And Ryu, I added all the numbers that you mentioned that I could immediately back up. I might do further snooping later for some of those numbers though, and add them as I find the sources. Thank you so much!

Great List!

Just one suggestion, would be cool if you added average theater $

Thank you! I added these and a couple more of the larger ones (Anything over $4,000). This helps put DH2's number in even greater perspective. Even though 3D helped that PTA, it's still absolutely nuts.

Think How Many Theaters Each got, would also be interesting to see that rise.

Looking at the Numbers, How does the BreakDown Look?

As, on Midnight, that is amazing, as it is always as much as any single day!

Midnight = 43.5 Million
Friday Only = 48.6 Million
Total = 92.1 Million

Jon has the theaters listed in the first post. DH2 actually had less theaters than Eclipse with midnight showings.
