i congratulate all who thought the ring 2 would drop 60% on it's second weekend. October would have been the ideal month to release it. could the ring 2 make it even to 80 million?

Day 10:

Freddy Vs. Jason: $62,466,607
Alien Vs. Predator: $64,218,548
The Ring Two: $58,085,000

It's definitely got a chance -- depends on the weekdays. Its second weekend was better than both FVJ's and AVP's.

So will MDB get 100 - going to be close?

And GW beats MC2 even with the extra days MC2 has.

M$B is a lock for $100m. The Ring Two will finish with around $80-85m.

Actually, The Ring Two's weekend gross is quite good. Consider two films from last year that dropped heavily on their first Saturday: AvP and The Village. Both dropped over 67% their second weekend, so 60% is good. It is still a dissapointment, and unless the film has equally strong weekdays as it did last week, I expect it to finish with around $85 million.

Ive got it pegged at around $82.5m; thats 25% less than "The Grudge" or a 2.35 multiplier.

Hostage's WOM is spreading further and further. Last weekend it dropped less then expected, this weekend it had the smallest drop of the top 10. :)

I was still hoping to see it cross $100 million, but unless it has a very shallow drop next weekend (unlikely) that is not going to happen.

I think it's funny that one of my original analogies is a bit more true than I would've expected. For this "new wave" of horror films, The Ring is like Halloween and The Grudge is like Friday the 13th. Grudge took what made Ring successful, the scares, stripped away the story, shipped that out to theaters, and was a success. Now Ring Two comes out and does less than The Grudge (similar to Halloween II doing less than Friday the 13th), but still does quite well for itself (again, similar to H2).

Sony better pray Grudge doesn't follow the pattern with The Grudge 2.

The Grudge 2 is going to kick ass.
I dont know how; but i just think its going to be alot better than The Ring Two's psychodrama.

The Grudge 2 will do around $80m. The WOM was not good for the original.

It all depends on how they market it. Sony should really pull all stops on the trailer, push it to the limit of intensity. Samara crawling on the ceiling would definitely sell. But personally, I think they should have the trailer open just like the original Grudge sequel. Just give us a black screen with that throat sound increasing, then a quick flash of the ghost. That'd be awesome.

I doubt it, unless it actually develops a story this time around. A completely unscary movie with no story? Not a good combination. I'd be surprised if Grudge 2 tops $70 million.
