And for good reason too.

I was predicting over 30 million for this. So I pretty much have no idea what went wrong. The only thing I can say is that a lot of people didnt want to see puppets but I'm talking out of my ass right now.

Anyways, yeah, it's dissapointing that the audiences didn't go like we thought they would. Those sneaks were very misleading, because they were so successful. Oh well, it's an excellent movie, and the people are missing out. :wink:

Honestly, this isnt even spam. Come on .. almost everyone predicted more (cept bkb). The lowest even I saw was 18 for this.

Actually, I predicted $17 million. :twisted:

Anywho, what went wrong? The trailers/tv spots sucked and the fact that it's puppets turned off a lot of people.

Trey and Matt had to make all the ads for the movie G-rated, so many people probably thought it was a parody of action movies with puppets, and nothing more. All of the funnier lines couldn't be used in the trailer

Thats an easy answer. Its because South Park's overzealous fan base is over predicting the movie and bashes anyone who doesnt agree with their high predictions (See rotten tomatoes for proof). And the fanboidom for the movie happens to be overhyped in the internet. Its also misleading that just because people laughed at parts of the trailer doesn't necessarily mean they will pay their hard earned money to see it. They probably viewed the movie as a 15 min SNL skit that translates well into tv but not a movie. I see the same thing happening with Sponge Bob in the future

I actually agree with this. Most (all) of the funny stuff couldn't be included in the marketing, so the film came off as very dry in the ads.

Wouldn't surprise me. Meet the Feebles is awesome. I love Jackson's pre-Heavenly Creatures work. Bad Taste, Meet the Feebles and Brain Dead...all classics. My fave is Brain Dead, though. Nothing can beat the lawnmower! :lol:

Yeah, Jackson is one of our "used to be genre filmmakers" like Sam Raimi. Heavenly Creatures is still pretty great, though.

Heavenly Creatures is good. I really love the way that both genre filmmakers, Raimi and Jackson, turned out to be the ones who direct the biggest franchises ever nowadays. That should be rubbed in the face of all people who think that making good gory horror movies requires no talent.

Actually if you read the origional predictions thread I said $12 million.

It's obvious. Matt and Trey are a huge cult thing, it's political, it's a hard-R, and it is a satire.

People just overpredicted it.

Good call, Andy. Even though many predicted it in the twenties, I don't know many who denied that there was bomb potential - we just expected a...suprise.

Overpredicting was what went wrong. People should have listened to BKB. I think he was the only one that I saw who didn't have his head in the clouds where this movie's BO was concerned. :P

Okay having read some replies, I agree.

I was never impressed by the ad campaign. But almost everyone around me (and those on the internet) kept telling me it looked hilarious and i went with that.

Ofcourse, I thought the movie ruled! But yes, I guess I hang around people who are a minority and do not constitute as people who are a good sample.

I have a group of 22 friends all over the country, all about 39 years or so and all movie buffs. We all watch at least 30 movies a year in the theater. Nobody in the group wanted to see this or had any interest in this movie.

The only people that had any interest were probably south park fans and some young males. Hence even with the controversy and hype, it is a big flop.

Fortunately, for people with discernable taste, this stupid movie should end the film careers of stone and parker. Back to cable and stupidity for them.
