Post On 6/17, Howl's Moving Castle VS Batman Begins
Batman Begins will open wide on 6/17/05.

According to this two sites, Howl's Moving Castle will expand to wide release on 6/17 (700-800 screens)

It means that on 6/17, we will see [Christian Bale VS Christian Bale].

I hope that Disney will delay the release date of Howl's Moving Castle; it would be killed by Batman Begins.

Maybe not though. Howl's Moving Castle will appeal to a far different audience. Is it going to be released limited before hand similar to Spirited Away? If so, which would be the best choice, then it likely won't do more then $4,000-$5,000 per theater. Since it will appeal mostly to families, there shouldn't be much to worry about.

The director and the distributor of Howl's Moving Castle estimated it would gross $450M in Japan after the first weekend. Last week it was at $1.2M weekend and a $172M total and probably ending with $185 to 190M (well short of $450M).

These Japanese estimates are always laughable and idiotic.

That is still an incredible total from one country though. I believe the top grossing film is Spirited Away with $294 million?

I doubt that Batman Begins is going to have much effect on HMC. I just wish there was a confirmed release date for it in the UK, if anyone knows any thing please let me know!!

Spirited Away made $241M.

$185M is incredible, no doubt.

I am laughing at their stupid estimates after the first weekend.

It is one thing for fanboys to make some overpredictions. But the japanese distributors are always off and I don't know why they even try.

Yay, HMC has a release date. \:D/ My most anticipated film for the rest of the year, I hope my theatre gets it. Anyways, yeah, Batman Begins won't effect HMC's gross.

I think that Batman Begins will effect HMC's gross. Their audience target have crossover.

General family audience don't like to see Hayao Miyazaki's movie; Even receiving wide release, Spirited Away only grossed $10 million in US(not too shabby for the indie world, though).
