Evangelion has reached 10 billion yen as of Tuesday. The fourth state of emergency began Monday, so expect lower figures for this week.

Amazing and its still going on strong. I wonder if these new set of restrictions will boost the BO again in the coming weeks as it has done the entire pandemic.

Yes, indeed. I think the decision to pull out the film from most theaters on the 21st of July was premature. That being said, the next few weeks will be seeing a very crowded summer box office with many delayed films opening.

Well I'm sure they will earn more from rabid fanbase purchasing their box sets of the franchise.

Any thoughts on Mamoru Hosoda's film BELLE 「竜とそばかすの姫」opening this weekend?

I gave a quick look through some toho theaters earlier today and early presales looked nice/good to me, didn't dig too deep though. Personal hope (and hopium expectation) would be for the movie to exceed boy and the beast's opening which I think is doable especially since this one is getting IMAX right off the bat. Though it may be hurt by a good chunk of theaters having gone back to 50% this week.

In 3 days, Demon Slayer returns to 383 theaters. No, 9 months after its release, Demon Slayer's run is still not over.

Great opening for Belle, narrowly beating The Boy and the Beast (which was Mamoru Hosoda's highest opener previously IIRC). Hopefully, Belle has better legs and can reach ¥7 billion or more.

Demon Slayer never left all theaters, right? If this counts as an expansion and not a re-release, then Demon Slayer re-entering the Top 10 in its 41st weekend seems like a record for the latest a film managed to do so. Titanic fell out of the Top 10 after its 40th weekend and never returned (not counting its 2012 re-release).

This is technically an expansion but it's pushing towards re-release criteria as well.

Belle's legs look really good to me. I think this can go 6bln+ and become Hosoda's highest grossing movie.

Too early to decide because the market is volatile. We don't know how will be the state of things once Olympics end.

You mean in terms of restrictions or just that movie business could decrease once olympics are done? I could see the first one interfering, though many big prefectures are already operating at 50% and I don't see them going any lower than that, but I'm not sure why the second one would happen.
