I didn't expect that QP2 isn't popular in Japan...Did QP 1 performed better? Sorry if this was already discussed and I missed it >.<

Yeah AQP didn't do as big in Japan so this performance of AQP 2 is inline with standard sequel drop.

I don't have details on that but I think Corpse already made it clear that these events won't make a difference now that it's released in physical media. The last event just before the physical release also didn't make much so I don't see the movie's BO doing much more from here on now.

Believe it or not, that's the first Western No. 1 in 40 weeks...

Yep I thought that number would be high.

Widow morning shows 15% occupancy. Final may be 20-25%. That will give 34-42K in usual locs. Overall 70-85K OD as compared to Friday OD of 129K of CM.

That's good enough given that Japan has been on boycott of Disney movies due to simultaneous D+ release.

Post subject:  Re: Japan Box-Office: Updates on Hiatus until ~August

Guess occupancy won't improve much. 25K usual locs probably.

Still can't believe Disney is basically deciding to forgo Japan as a viable market for the time being.

Uemarasan,
Thanks for the update. Which source were your numbers from and how many theaters did Godzilla vs. Kong open in?

Source is https://www.bunkatsushin.com. Data is available for a limited time and then becomes subscribers-only.

According to https://eiga.com/ranking/jp, Godzilla vs Kong was shown in 366 cinemas. I believe this is not the number of screens but the number of cineplexes showing the film. Do correct me if I happen to be mistaken.

It could be number of theaters in this case. Big Hollywood movies used to get that many theaters before COVID and this is Godzilla which might have resulted in the movie getting higher count.

About 70-ish less theaters than the last three live action Godzilla films. My guess is that has more to do with Covid restrictions, especially since Toho is the one distributing.

Thanks, Uemarasan.

quite decent opening for BW at $3.5M in 4 days. May be $8M full run.

SAT and SUN occupancy were 30%

So MCU defies D+ release strategy in Japan as well.

Tokyo Revengers scored the 4th best opening this year so far by barely edging out Kenshin with 528M weekend, 696M 3 days. Pretty good.

That's great indeed. It's difficult for movies based on anime to breakout in the market. Was this a continuation of manga arc from anime or a separate story?

Live action starting from chapter 1 I believe. Not 100% sure if I'm right but I don't think it had any premium format showings either afaik.

That's even more impressive if it's live action series. I remember Corpse mentioning these adaptations almost always bomb or don't do much. Hmm I wonder if Black Widow is hogging all the premium format shows.
