I don't want anyone thinking today means it's going to gross ¥5 billion or something, or be disappointed because it becomes super-frontloaded (which it will be opening on today with another holiday tomorrow).
Today is pretty much as big of a day as you can get in the market in terms of max potential for an opening day (national holiday between two other national holidays, Toho Cinema Discount Day, and Ladies' Day). Yeah in general I don't really expect much from Japan for MCU. Just give a decent 4 days OW and that's fine.

Very busy today. I'll have the Wednesday estimates up soonish, but the weekend actuals (04/30-05/01) will have to wait until tomorrow.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Golden Week 2022 (Apr. 29-May 5)
Very impressive opening day for Dr. Strange 2. Opening on such a lucrative day, and having a holiday tomorrow as well, will make this one very, very frontloaded, but its 5-day opening should be strong overall. It'll easily be Disney's biggest film since 2019 (Eternals is their only film since then to even reach ¥1 billion, which struggled a bit to get there) and I'm guessing could be aiming for... ¥2.5 billion (~$20 million) or so? Hard to say so early, but seems reasonable for now.
And all the holdovers did crazy good again.
Detective Conan will be well over ¥7 billion after this upcoming Sunday, and perhaps near ¥7.5 billion. It'll start to fall hard next week, but this total *should* be enough to get it above the franchise record of ¥9.37 billion, and gives it a good chance of reaching ¥10 billion (~$75-80 million).
Fantastic Beasts 3 will be very close to outgrossing No Way Home after this upcoming Sunday to become the highest grossing Hollywood film since 2019. If it's not after Sunday, then it'll achieve this feat shortly into next week (Mon-Tues, I expect). It should have enough in the tank to get above ¥5 billion (~$40 million+) after that, making it the first Hollywood blockbuster since 2019 (if that wasn't obvious from the sentence before this one).
Also want to mention Jujutsu Kaisen 0. Golden Week has been very strong for it, pushing it back inside the Top 10 this week, and thanks to this there's a slight chance it can outgross The Last Samurai (¥13.7 billion) to become the 14th highest grossing film of all-time. It might appear likely (very likely), and I think it will, but I'd wait to see its post-holiday dailies before calling it yet.

¥1100M-¥1200M Opening Week looks possible for Dr Strange 2. Today's drop was ---------- being a holiday, I expect tomorrow to be same, with Sat holding up higher than Fri // likewise going down on Sun. Hopefully, Disney should have given a date to run alongside with Shin-chan, easily would have passed it's prequel (2017) - ¥1.87B on holidays.....

Re: Japan Box-Office: Golden Week 2022 (Apr. 29-May 5)
Hmm... Overall, Friday should be quite a bit lower than Thursday (probably similar to Monday). It's just a normal day. And Saturday and Sunday will likely be less than Thursday, too, or *maybe* on par at best. It's how these major holiday periods behave.
I'll have Thursday estimates soon.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Golden Week 2022 (Apr. 29-May 5)
And that concludes Golden Week 2022!
Couldn't have hoped for much better, really. The four holidays all falling on the weekdays, and the 1st on a Sunday, allowed for optimal performance this year.

Surprisingly, Title "Dr. Strange" itself speaks that it's going to behave strangely on box office. Corpse, is there any range of admits for its *two days* Just like to know where it falls.
Fantastic Beasts 3 &Shin Chan Trends and hold were amazing. Jujutsu Kaisen Movie 0 seem to pass ¥13.6B by Sat, may be it will be on par with Last Samurai (¥13.7B) or might fell short of it, only to be known in coming months. Can Free Movie exceed ¥1B (?), Last one made ¥700M, I am thinking about ¥900M for Part II (?)

Can Free Movie exceed ¥1B (?), Last one made ¥700M, I am thinking about ¥900M for Part II (?) I'd estimate Dr. Strange 2's first two day admissions to be a bit shy of 500,000 (~475,000-485,000, perhaps). Disney's OD figure is really close to what I estimated, so this should be a reliable estimate for its admissions too. And yes, FB3, Shin-chan 30, and all the other holdovers (including Conan, too, obviously) did exceptional business over the holiday period. Free's increases were small, but the fact it had any since it appears exclusively to fans-only is still impressive. It was definitely one of the strongest Golden Weeks I can recall in terms of increases (which were massive basically all week) and individual performances. I don't think there are enough Free! fans to get it to ¥1 billion. I'd go with ¥800-900 million, but maybe on the lower-end? It opened higher than Part I, and has had GW to boost it, but that doesn't exactly mean more people are seeing it, just that more fans are seeing it earlier.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Golden Week 2022 (Apr. 29-May 5)
Disney was off a good bit too, then. It skewed very heavily rural, far more than almost any (maybe even any) wide release I can think of. Avg. ticket price was also lower than expected, however, not too surprising with Wednesday being Toho Cinema Discount Day and Ladies' Day. And in general, holiday attendance can skew a little more toward families / younger moviegoers.
It's still great, of course. I'd just adjust the Thursday estimate above down a little bit to account for it skewing more rural than I was even projecting it to (which was a lot already). Maybe like ~¥250 million instead. First two-day admissions are probably around 460,000.

Well, two days Total reported by Disney: $5.3M (~¥690M). Just thinking how they are doing E.R. <( ̄︶ ̄)>
It looks impossible to know approx value at JPY, more like to be between ¥650M-¥670M

Re: Japan Box-Office: Golden Week 2022 (Apr. 29-May 5)
Yeah, your numbers as of Friday look reasonable.
Quick Weekend Update (expect big drops coming out of Golden Week, to begin):
Detective Conan 25 is looking to repeat at #1 for a fourth weekend. Assuming a small Sunday bump, since it's in its fourth week now, it's probably aiming for ~¥375-400 million. That'll take its total up to a stellar ~¥7 billion (~$55 million) or a tad more. Should get to at least ¥9 billion (~$70 million) from there, and has a good chance of breaking the franchise record (¥9.37 billion). Not sure of ¥10 billion, will need to see how it plays out.
Dr. Strange 2 looks to debut in second place, assuming it drops a bit on Sunday (as most openers do). Currently expecting an opening weekend of ~¥325-350 million. That'll take its 5-day holiday opening up to the cusp of the ¥1 billion (~$7.5-8 million) mark. This should be enough to get it safely above ¥2 billion, and possibly as much as ¥2.5 billion (~$20 million) or so in the market. Anything over ¥2 billion is impressive for a non-Spider-Man/Avengers MCU film in the market, and ¥2.5 billion would be particularly impressive if it can get there (Civil War is the only non-Spider-Man/Avengers MCU film, because it featured them..., to get to that mark).
Fantastic Beasts 3 is holding as well as expected post-GW so far. It'll be over ¥4 billion as of Sunday (might be as of Saturday) and will outgross No Way Home to become the highest-grossing Hollywood film since 2019 soon after. ¥5 billion (~$40 million) isn't locked up, but I'd give its chances of reaching the blockbuster milestone over 50% still.
Crayon Shin-chan 30 is also performing as well as expected post-GW so far and should get back to around ¥2 billion (~$15 million+).

Re: Japan Box-Office: Golden Week 2022 (Apr. 29-May 5)
Doctor Strange Daily:
By Disney (International)
05/04 : $3.8M 05/05 : $1.5M 05/06 : $1.4M
Sat+Sun : $2.7M
Total : $9.4M
Official OD announced by Disney Japan : ¥420M / 300K visitors. Rest are not reported. May be after Sun, or Mon (16:00 JST), we might have a day-to-day breakdown (if lucky). I believe it's somewhere above ¥950M after Sat. Overall, great result. Just this USD-JPY conversion by Studio a bit of confusing.
2022 Conan has fallen behind 2019 Conan (which is yet to receive an expansion on Last August that year). Though, it's a great result, considering how CoVid-19 gave the biggest OW to prequel and affect it lifetime. I think last year one had rushing audience across rural location. Still satisfying that this franchise is deacades old yet, keeps improving each year with new production.
I am very much satisfied with Fantastic Beast, though, I originally thought ¥3B finals. At present, I hope it exceed Parasite (¥4.7B), yeah... I will be very happy with ¥5B+ ending. Also, I hope Shin-Chan to back ¥2B too, it not far from it's peak ¥2.29B (2015 Shin-chan), Last ¥2B was 2019 Shin-Chan (¥2.08B).

@eigarankingnews expecting ¥1.1-1.2B on 1st 3-days of Opening, while expecting a final of ¥6B. I really don't know how this work gonna perform. Never had any film of this franchise exceeding ¥1B, as ATG of the franchise is at ¥838M made on 2008. Last work released on 2020 made ¥150M.... This work is entirely relaying on Hideaki Anno's reception. If I talk about sales then IMAX are selling well then any other formats, but I don't have any comparison for it ༎ຶ‿༎ຶ Let's see how it opens

Re: Japan Box-Office: Golden Week 2022 (Apr. 29-May 5)
I've fallen quite behind on updates! I'll have the Weekend Actuals for 04/30-05/01 and 05/07-08 posted later this evening.
Regarding Shin Ultraman, I haven't had time to check how it's doing in the early stages of reservations, but I find it doing over ¥1 billion in its first three-days very, very optimistic. I might be misjudging this one with just the knowledge of the franchise not being big at the box-office, but an opening that high and expecting it to also break ¥5 billion (or ¥6 billion) just seems really out there to me since its audience should still be quite limited even with Anno involved.
Reaching those numbers requires very significant casual moviegoer support. I'd consider, and I believe most others would, too, half of those figures to still be very impressive.
I'm almost tempted to NOT look at how it's doing anywhere before opening to be surprised if it does become a major breakout.
