For the upcoming Ant-Man And The Wasp is it possible to be one of the first major wide release in Japan to have 2x legs from OW?

Well, the first movie of the year to open at 300+ theaters will be Ichikei's Crow this weekend. And there are four others opening at 300+ theaters before Ant-Man opens. But for Hollywood, yeah, Ant-Man will be the first.

Also, the first weekend of February is one to watch this year. There's the Demon Slayer special movie, but also a BTS movie (opening on Feb. 1st ahead of the weekend) that appears to be generating a lot of early buzz/sales.

Post Re: Japan Box-Office: Japan Moves To 3-Day Weekends
Excellent results and cume so far for Suzume and Slam Dunk. Suzume will probably end up somewhere in the ¥13 Billion range and Slam Dunk around ¥9 Billion range as you mentioned but Toei might just do giveaways to get to the Uber-Blockbuster mark. Toei Animation as a result of One Piece Film Red and Slam Dunk sure have been doing great at the box office and I am quite happy about that. :D

Post Re: Japan Box-Office: Japan Moves To 3-Day Weekends
2022 was Toei's biggest year ever by a whopping 81%, rising to the #2 distributor of 2022 (behind Toho, of course). Their films earned ¥32.563 billion last year on 23,646,555 admissions, breaking their previous 2009 record of ¥17.980 billion.

One Piece Film Red accounted for 58% of their annual earnings, and it alone earned more than their 2009 record year.

And with when combined, One Piece and Slam Dunk accounted for 77% of Toei's annual earnings.

Post Re: Japan Box-Office: Biggest 3 Day Openings
Okay, so with Japan moving to 3-day weekends, here is the new Biggest Opening Weekend Chart (3-Day) we'll be going off of. Most films have opened on Friday in recent years, but we still got the occasional Saturday release, so there will be some films missing on the Biggest 3-Day OW and exclusive to the now retired Biggest 2-Day OW Chart. Also, almost all films opened on Saturday before 2007, so all those OWs are on the retired Biggest 2-Day OW chart as well.

When a film opens high enough (keeping the mark at ¥1 billion) to make the chart, they'll be added to the one below now. And I'll keep the retired Biggest 2-Day OW chart in spoiler tags below for reference too.

Biggest 3-Day Opening Weekends:

Since I suspect dailies will still be released at least for opening weekends, couldn't you still technically keep the 2 day charts updated?

If we get a daily breakdown, sure, but we still don't get them for every release, usually only major openers. But when they're available, I can include them on the 2-day chart, yeah.

I hope TGM will have a little re-release with nominations and will surpass The last samurai and JJK0

Not sure if someone has noticed or not but

Bunka News &Precog is still on 2-days Weekend.

I see that change came in kogyotsushin.com and everything from ComScore to Eiga went to that format.

Appreciating trying to be worldlyness with other International Market like Korea, Taiwan, China... But, stilll think 2-days was better than anything and this change is really Unnecessary to be honest (。ŏ﹏ŏ)

Interesting that both OP red and Slam Dunk did great for Toei.

At first I thought DB Super Super heroes had done "bad" because of 3d, but Slam Dunk also was 3D, so was the lackluster story what made it not be a super blockbuster? Or is Dragon Ball maybe too "old" of franchise in Japan (Or perhaps there is fatigue for DB movies?

For Suzume I am guessing somewhere between Late this month to March it can hit ¥13 Billion mark. I have to also say damn Slam Dunk is having some great legs for Saturday and its being really leggy that ¥10 Billion is still a possibility?

Seems like it may have had a giveaway or stage greeting or something. Holds were great across the board, but it's actually up ~5%.

And depending on Sunday, looks like One Piece Film Red might resurface back inside the Top 10 in its 24th weekend, as fans come out to see it in its final 3 weekends, although Friday being apart of the weekend now makes it more difficult for films with a family/teen audience to rank higher on the weekend charts. OPFR was nowhere close to the Top 10 on Friday for example because a large chunk of its audience can't go to theaters on a weekday.

From Luiz Twitter https://mobile.twitter.com/Luiz_Fernand ... 6058523650:

In #Japan’s #BoxOffice, which is moving to 3-day weekends instead of 2,
#TheFirstSlamDunk led its 7th weekend in a row, grossing 3.1M on 7th weekend, -15.1% drop from last wknd, for a 61.7M cume.
Phenom #Suzume came #2 grossing 1.9M on 10th weekend, -31.6%, for a 91.3M cume.
1/2

#AvatarTheWayOfWater still posts solid legs in #Japan’s #BoxOffice during weekends, but is leaving local Top 3,dropping to #4 grossing 1.3M on 5th weekend, -38.1%, for a 25.7M cume.
Could beat #Sing2 26.8M as #7 highest grossing Hollywood film of pandemic era next weekend.
2/2

So in local currency the results as of 01/15 for Slam Dunk is ¥8.275 Billion, for Suzume it is ¥12.488 Billion, and Avatar 2 its ¥4.455 Billion.

Avatar 2 is at ¥3.458 billion (1.90 million admissions). ;)

Will be lucky to reach ¥4.455 billion since I suspect it'll lose most of its screens on Feb. 3rd. It only added ¥313 million since last Monday, so I'm thinking it'll finish around ~¥4.1/4.2 billion. I don't want to keep beating this film up, but that might not even be enough to make the Top 10 of 2023. It's not enough for the Top 10 in 2022 either (would rank 12th).

I'll have Weekend Actuals and Chart Updates up later tonight.

Do you have a source for this? So that way I can use it for reference and certain websites.
