Forgot to mention that three weeks ago, Ant-Man 3 was the first Hollywood/Imported film to take #1 at the box-office since Jurassic World 3 in July last year. It has since collapsed (not even in the top 10 now), but it did break a likely 9-month streak with its one weekend on top that would have otherwise lasted until the last weekend of April at the earliest.

Is this the fastest for a MCU movie like Ant-Man 3 to be out of the top ten in gross and admissions? I known Marvel/DC films are frontloaded but I am guessing that soon it will also be out of the top 25.

Probably? Two weeks in the top 10, especially after managing a #1 debut, is quite awful. Some have only recorded three weeks, but I don't recall one only managing two unless it bombed in its debut (debut barely in/outside the top 5 for instance). It's barely managed to double its opening weekend after three weeks, which is about as bad as you can do in Japan.

Disney films in general have been very frontloaded in recent years (my theory is those interested see them the first week or two, and everyone else just waits for Disney+, which, for a leggy market like Japan, spells doom), so I think that's also increased the level of frontloadness the Marvel films are seeing. Spider-Man 3, Thor 3, and Black Panther 2 were more frontloaded than normal. Dr. Strange 2 opened on a Wednesday on the tail-end of a major holiday period, so it managed "okay" legs.

Its run is basically over now, it's only playing in a few theaters. I only see 4 Toho Cinemas that still have it, and it's down to 1 showing at each of them. It's outside the Top 25 films, and no weekend figure was reported.

The total on the last page, ¥4.29 billion ($32.8 million) / 2.34 million admissions, will be very close to the final. Assume it'll wrap up with ~¥4.30 billion ($32.9 million) / 2.35 million admissions.

Japan Academy Prize is a shock.
Slum Dank won best animation.
Suzume won best music.
One Piece Red only get two out-of-competition achievements, popular award and special award.

Oh, and Top Gun won best foreign, no surprise here.

Yeah those Japan Academy Prize results are interesting. Suzume only took music, huh?

We're a week out from Hideaki Anno's Shin Kamen Rider. What's interest looking like?

So I was curious on why the first slam won best animation and bought a ticket to watch it in cinema, and I was totally blown away by it. I predict it'd do extremely well in north america box-office.

Oh, can someone (Corpse?) check if Slamdunk is currently the highest grossing Japanese "3DCG" animation ever?

It's a little surprising The First Slam Dunk won Best Animation over Suzume... but on the other hand, I get it. Slam Dunk is iconic and hasn't had new material for decades until now, and the movie is great, and they've already awarded Shinkai in the past. They still gave Suzume Best Music, so it wasn't shut out. Both are benefitting from their wins, Slam Dunk seeing an increase this weekend, while Suzume is looking at a very strong hold.

One Piece Film Red was very unlikely to win because they'd already announced the special award it was getting for its impact on the industry last year. And Most Popular is an award I think the Oscars should start doing too.

And yes, Top Gun: Maverick winning Best Foreign Film was expected, so no surprise there. It's back inside the Top 20 (or at least close) in its 42nd weekend, and looking at a good weekend increase too, following the boost it's gotten from the win. If it wins Best Picture at the Oscars, it will rise even higher up the charts and possibly overtake The Last Samurai as Cruise's biggest film in Japan.

Has this ever happened before? The Top Two positions in South Korea going to Japanese movies (and 3 out of the Top 4)?

What's the chance of Slam Dunk beating JJK0?

60% - SLAM DUNK has so far exceeded much of my expectations.

It is quite amazing and I am also happy that Toei manage to score two hits over ¥10 Billion which are "The First Slam Dunk" and "One Piece Film Red" without the help of Toho since another Toei film Shin Evangelion also had Toho and Khara on board. So congrats to Toei.

Sweeping Oscars might help boost EEAAO in the upcoming weekend.

Oh, and Brendan Fraser winning best actor will help the Whale too, which scheduled to be released in April. But the Japanese trailer sucks. Not surprised since Japan usually create better posters and worse trailers than the international counterpart.

Definitely going to be fun to watch EEAAO now. Got the Best Picture, but also the other biggies. Should see a very strong week, and may rise to #1 over the weekdays, I'd think. Except for today (Monday) since it's halfway over.

Top Gun: Maverick not taking home any major awards will probably end its run soon in the market now. Pretty sure Towa Pictures was keeping it playing these past couple months in case it won big tonight.

And too bad Puss 2 didn't win Best Animated. It's opening this weekend, and a win could have given it a boost.

Next weekend Box Office will be fun to watch with EEAAO increasing as a result of Best Picture Oscar win, Shin Kamen Rider coming out and also Puss in Boots and Shazam 2. I love EEAAO and its going be great when it increases in Japan weekend 3. For Shin Kamen Rider I am happy about its release in Japan and hopefully it comes out in NA later this year.

Definitely can already see the impact for EEAAO today as it climbed from 40% drop early in the day to less than 20% by night.

Something a little concerning for EEAAO is that its audience review score seems rather lackluster. 2.9/5 in Yahoo Japan and 3.3/5 in eiga.
